Associate Scientist, Cell Line Development

Asimov•Boston, MA
•$90,000 - $100,000

About The Position

Asimov is developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform, spanning cells to software, to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics. The Associate Scientist will join the Cell Line Development team and conduct CHO-based cell line engineering and screening to produce human therapeutics. The role also involves synthetic biology studies and evaluations of new technologies to innovate workflows and the expression platform. The Associate Scientist will perform cell line development processes, document studies in an Electronic Lab Notebook, help identify emerging practices in biologics cell line development and manufacturing, and contribute to novel workflows and applications. The role includes high-impact research projects beyond standard molecules and workflows, with results intended for publication and/or patent filings. Asimov describes itself as a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and emphasizes a collaborative culture that brings together diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Biological Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on industry experience in mammalian cell engineering.
  • Deep understanding of molecular biology.
  • Experience with at least one of the following: transient or stable siRNA knock-downs/knock-outs, inducible and/or synthetic gene expression systems, or CRISPR-based cell line engineering.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets such as Google Sheets or Excel.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for data analysis, visualization, and automation of day-to-day workflows.
  • Creative problem-solving ability and interest in driving the creation of industry-disruptive technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CHO cell line development in support of biologic therapies, such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).
  • Candidates with strong mammalian cell engineering backgrounds in other cell types or applications are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with cell culture liquid handling automation, flow cytometry, ELISA, ambr bioreactors, and/or ddPCR on coding/non-coding RNA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CHO cell line development processes, including transfection, cloning, characterization, and cell banking using state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Complete comprehensive documentation of studies in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
  • Help identify emerging practices for biologics cell line development and manufacturing to shape scientific strategies and develop improved workflows.
  • Contribute to innovation focused on developing novel cell line development workflows and applications.
  • Work on novel, high-impact CLD research projects beyond standard molecules and workflows, with results intended for publication and/or patent filings.
  • Execute synthetic biology studies and new technology evaluations to innovate workflows and the expression platform.
