Principal Scientist, Lentiviral Vector Cell Line Development

Asimov•Boston, MA
•$170,000 - $190,000

About The Position

Asimov is hiring a Principal Scientist to lead its Lentiviral Vector Cell Line Development team in Boston, MA. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on experimentation and offers direct influence over the Lentiviral Vector platform roadmap and scientific vision. The scientist will lead development of stable producer cell lines for lentiviral vector therapeutics and innovate cell line development workflows. The position includes setting the scientific roadmap for the Lentiviral Vector cell line development platform; performing stable producer cell line development, including transfection, pool generation, single-cell cloning, clone screening and characterization, and cell banking; and serving as the primary technical contact for customer and commercial projects. The Principal Scientist will partner with the commercial team to present platform capabilities and convert customer requirements into executable project plans. The role also provides technical leadership and mentorship to team scientists, including managing direct reports and establishing high standards for experimental design, data analysis, and record-keeping. The scientist will represent Lentiviral Vector CLD on cross-functional and leadership-facing teams, make cell line development strategy decisions, communicate project progress, risks, and plans, and support development of novel workflows and applications. Additional work includes research on viral vector production methods to improve product quality attributes, collaboration with Synthetic Biology and Process Development teams, and external representation of Asimov's science through publications and conference presentations.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Biological Engineering, Virology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on biopharma experience, including 6+ years focused on lentiviral vector producer or packaging cell line development supporting GLP or GMP production of cell or gene therapies.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing direct reports and providing technical guidance.
  • Proven ability to balance hands-on bench leadership with platform strategy and roadmapping.
  • Experience communicating technical work to external stakeholders and translating their needs into technical plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific work externally, evidenced by publications, patents, and/or conference presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working with large, multidimensional datasets and applying statistical or computational methods to derive actionable biological or process insights.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with downstream purification and PQ assessment of lentiviral vectors, T-cell transduction assays, viral genome engineering, and/or host cell genome engineering related to virus production or producer cell line technologies.
  • Experience with process development at Ambr or benchtop bioreactor scale.

Responsibilities

  • Set and steer the scientific roadmap for the Lentiviral Vector cell line development platform.
  • Develop lentiviral vector stable producer cell lines through transfection, pool generation, single-cell cloning, clone screening and characterization, and cell banking.
  • Serve as the primary Lentiviral Vector CLD technical contact on customer and commercial projects.
  • Partner with the commercial team to present platform capabilities to prospective partners and translate customer requirements into executable project plans.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to scientists, including managing direct reports and setting standards for experimental design, data analysis, and record-keeping.
  • Represent Lentiviral Vector CLD on cross-functional and leadership-facing project teams; make cell line development strategy decisions and communicate progress, risks, and plans.
  • Support innovation by developing novel workflows and applications.
  • Support research to develop viral vector production methods that enhance product quality attributes, including empty/full ratio, potency, and cell targeting.
  • Collaborate with Synthetic Biology and Process Development teams in support of the Lentiviral Vector CLD platform.
  • Design experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot, and maintain detailed records.
  • Represent Asimov's science externally through publications and presentations at leading industry conferences.
