About The Position

Insmed is seeking an Associate Scientist, Drug Formulation to join its Research team. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Formulation, this role focuses on developing, optimizing, and characterizing nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. The Associate Scientist will contribute to non-viral vehicle formulation and characterization for platform development and project-level activities, advancing RNA- and gene-based therapeutic programs through hands-on formulation science and analytical evaluation. The position is based at Insmed’s Bridgewater, New Jersey office and requires full-time, in-person work to support hands-on collaboration, specialized equipment access, and operational needs. Minimal travel is expected.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in one of these fields or a related field.
Hands-on experience in nanoparticle-based formulation development and analytical characterization.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience with nucleic acid delivery systems, especially lipid-based or polymeric nanoparticles.
Experience with nucleic acid encapsulation techniques.
Experience with bioconjugates and targeted delivery.
Proficiency in physicochemical and biochemical characterization techniques, including DLS, NTA, SEC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, fluorescence-based assays, and protein quantification methods.
Strong data analysis and interpretation skills using GraphPad Prism, Excel, or similar tools.
Familiarity with stability testing, release profiling, and formulation optimization.
Ability to independently design, execute, interpret, and present experimental results.
Experience in data processing, analysis, statistics, and interpretation.

Responsibilities

Develop and characterize lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and other nanoparticle-based delivery systems for platform development and project support.
Design and execute formulation studies, including nucleic acid encapsulation, analytical testing, and stability evaluations to establish formulations for RNA- and gene-based therapies.
Characterize nanoparticle formulations, including size, polydispersity index, surface charge, encapsulation efficiency, drug loading, and release kinetics.
Use analytical techniques such as DLS, NTA, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEC, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, and fluorescence-based assays to evaluate nanoparticles and drug products.
Synthesize and develop nanoparticle-based formulations for various therapeutic areas.
Support the design, synthesis, and purification of protein bioconjugates, including monoclonal antibody, peptide, and dye conjugation, as applicable.
Characterize and evaluate bioconjugates for physicochemical properties, stability, conjugation efficiency, and binding ability.
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot formulation challenges and propose data-driven solutions.
Perform data and statistical analyses using Excel and GraphPad Prism.
Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic notebook records and prepare internal technical reports.
