Applies foundational knowledge in chemistry or materials science with coaching and direction. Supports research, product development, and problem-solving for projects of limited scope and complexity. Executes experimental work following established protocols, safety requirements, and documentation standards. Actively participates on project teams, adapts to change, and seeks feedback and guidance appropriately. This position is based on-site in Indianapolis, IN. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline.
  • Foundational chemistry or materials science knowledge.
  • Hands-on wet-bench laboratory skills preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and receptive to coaching and feedback.
  • Consistent adherence to safety protocols and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of relevant laboratory or research experience (industry, academic, internship, or co-op).

Responsibilities

  • Support research and innovation activities within assigned projects or functional areas.
  • Execute laboratory experiments according to established protocols and project plans.
  • Contribute to problem-solving efforts with guidance and escalate risks or challenges as appropriate.
  • Assist with hypothesis development and basic experimental design with coaching.
  • Conduct experiments to generate repeatable and reproducible results under supervision.
  • Apply sound scientific judgment within defined procedures and scope.
  • Perform wet-bench chemistry procedures safely and accurately.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance research objectives.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and material traceability.
  • Analyze experimental data for problems of limited scope and complexity.
  • Document work clearly in lab notebooks and knowledge management systems.
  • Prepare draft reports, summaries, and presentations for review.
  • Present work routinely in team meetings and project updates.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively on project teams.
  • Receive and act on constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
  • Follow all safety, regulatory, and legal requirements consistently.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of chemicals and materials according to HRG policy.
