About The Position

The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is part of Sanford Health, a large integrated multispecialty healthcare system with hundreds of clinical facilities across the north-central U.S. MCRI is seeking an Associate Scientist in their Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health to establish a research program in cancer epidemiology. This individual should have a track record of scientific discovery, be able to secure externally funded research awards, and collaborate with other scientists and clinician investigators. They will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research portfolio with a focus on cancer epidemiology, including involvement with the NCI-funded Connect for Cancer Prevention Study (www.cancer.gov/connect-prevention-study/), as well as other externally funded research that aligns with their interests and experience. The position will be onsite or hybrid, with a combination of in-office and remote presence, depending on project activities.

Requirements

  • Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field.
  • Minimum of six years post-doctoral experience in related subject field of study.
  • Equivalent to Associate Professor.
  • Competitive publication record for rank and discipline.
  • High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline required.
  • Possess knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis.
  • Significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, implements and conducts independent scientific research including complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols.
  • Responsible for budgetary implication of the assigned research project.
  • Organizes and conceptualizes ideas leading to proposals.
  • Writes technical summaries and publications.
  • Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results.
  • Analyzes and evaluates findings.
  • Typically depends on established grant funds for terms of employment.
  • Originates and writes research proposals of sufficient quality to obtain significant financial support from external sponsors.
  • Considered the principal investigator on grants.
  • Established as co-author or senior author of proposals, journal articles and technical reports.
  • Implements experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues.
  • Runs complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training.
  • Conducts data collection and analysis.
  • Analyzes and evaluates data.
  • Works collaboratively with a research group or team.
