About The Position

The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is part of Sanford Health, a large integrated multispecialty healthcare system with hundreds of clinical facilities across the north-central U.S. MCRI is seeking an Assistant Scientist in their Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health to establish a research program in cancer epidemiology. This individual should have a track record of scientific discovery, be able to secure externally funded research awards, and collaborate with other scientists and clinician investigators. They will be expected to develop an independent research portfolio with a focus on cancer epidemiology, including involvement with the NCI-funded Connect for Cancer Prevention Study (www.cancer.gov/connect-prevention-study/), as well as other externally funded research that aligns with their interests and experience. The position will be onsite or hybrid, with a combination of in-office and remote presence, depending on project activities.

Requirements

  • Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field.
  • Minimum of three years post-doctoral experience in related subject field of study.
  • Equivalent to Assistant Professor.
  • Competitive publication record for rank and discipline.
  • High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline required.
  • Possess knowledge of modern research methods.
  • Significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a research group or team.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, implements and conducts independent scientific research.
  • Research would include but is not limited to complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols.
  • Analyzes and evaluates findings.
  • Organizes and conceptualizes ideas leading to proposals.
  • Writes technical summaries and publications.
  • Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results.
  • Considered the principal investigator on grants.
  • An established as co-author or senior author of proposals, journal articles and technical reports.
  • Implement experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues.
  • Run complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training.
  • Data collection and analysis.
