Associate Quantum Physicist (Quantum Computing)

Infleqtion•Louisville, CO
•$100,000 - $135,000

About The Position

Infleqtion is seeking a self-motivated, technically skilled Associate Quantum Physicist to support its Quantum Computing mission. The role focuses on experimental research and development for neutral-atom quantum computing systems, including hands-on work with quantum processor hardware, laser and optical systems, calibration, control, and system integration. The position collaborates with physics, software, electrical, mechanical, and systems-engineering teams. The role involves assembling, aligning, calibrating, operating, and maintaining quantum computing systems and subsystems; carrying out defined R&D tasks; translating experimental objectives into test procedures and measurement sequences with guidance from senior team members; conducting experiments and analyzing results; and developing Python-based tools for experiment control, analysis, calibration, automation, and hardware integration. The position also documents work and supports commissioning, routine operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of experimental systems. Work is normally performed in an office and laboratory environment around technical equipment, including computers and lasers. Up to 10% travel may be required. The position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations; an offer may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in atomic, optical, AMO, quantum physics, or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of comparable research or professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience conducting experiments involving atomic, optical, quantum, or precision-measurement systems.
  • Research or professional experience applying quantitative atomic or optical physics to experimental design, data analysis, or interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with lasers and optical systems, together with related technologies such as acousto-optic or electro-optic modulators, RF instrumentation, imaging systems, or ultra-high-vacuum equipment.
  • Experience using Python for experiment control, data analysis, automation, or hardware integration.
  • Experience conducting and analyzing physics experiments or developing and testing an experimental subsystem.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with neutral atoms, trapped ions, Rydberg physics, optical tweezers, quantum-gate protocols, or another coherent-control platform.
  • Experience assembling, aligning, or maintaining laser and optical systems.
  • Experience with high-power or short-wavelength lasers and optical power-delivery systems.
  • Experience measuring laser-frequency, phase, pointing, or intensity noise.
  • Experience with analog electronics, RF systems, feedback control, or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience with high-numerical-aperture imaging, beam shaping, or optical projection.
  • Experience with ultra-high-vacuum systems or integrating optical, electronic, vacuum, control, and software subsystems.
  • Experience developing automated calibration, data-analysis, or experimental test tools.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Git, command-line tools, and collaborative software-development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, align, calibrate, operate, and maintain neutral-atom quantum computing systems and subsystems.
  • Execute defined R&D tasks involving quantum processor hardware, quantum-gate protocols, laser and optical systems, calibration, control, or system integration.
  • Translate experimental objectives into test procedures, measurement sequences, and data-analysis workflows with guidance from senior team members.
  • Conduct experiments, analyze data, compare results with physics-based models, and communicate conclusions to the broader team.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based tools for experiment control, data analysis, calibration, automation, and hardware integration.
  • Test and troubleshoot assigned equipment and subsystems using established diagnostic methods.
  • Document experimental procedures, system configurations, analysis methods, and results.
  • Support the commissioning, routine operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of experimental systems.
  • Collaborate with physics, software, electrical, mechanical, and systems-engineering teams.
