About The Position

As an Associate Project Manager on Intersect's Data Centers and Fuels team, you will help deliver large-scale natural gas power generation and data center energy infrastructure projects from early engineering (FEL 1–3 through IFC) through construction, commissioning, and commercial handoff. You will support major capital projects, including the Meitner, Blackwell 1, and Roman 3 developments, and lead first-of-a-kind technology pilots that integrate natural gas reciprocating engines, gas turbines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), medium-voltage (MV) switchgear, power distribution centers (PDCs), and load banks to de-risk gigawatt-scale deployments. The role works directly with senior EPC contractor and OEM vendor leadership to address technical and commercial challenges. It is intended as a stepping stone to full Project Manager ownership, building experience to independently lead multi-million-dollar capital infrastructure projects. The Data Centers and Fuels team advances high-reliability power generation and data center infrastructure by bridging utility-scale power generation, microgrids, and advanced energy storage. The role collaborates across engineering, procurement, and construction disciplines on high-visibility capital projects. Intersect describes its workplace as fully flexible, with remote, hybrid, and in-office options. Team members gather for Team Week four times a year and at company hubs. Candidates are expected to be located within 60 miles of a listed hub: SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, Denver, Austin, Calgary, or Toronto.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of progressive project engineering or project management experience in utility-scale power generation, natural gas power plants, oil and gas, or heavy energy infrastructure, with demonstrated scope ownership.
  • Ability to interface credibly with and hold your ground in face-to-face technical and commercial discussions with senior EPC contractor and OEM vendor personnel.
  • Hands-on technical familiarity with gas turbines, natural gas reciprocating engines, Balance of Plant systems, MV switchgear, PDCs, load banks, and BESS or microgrid integration.
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle, including FEED (FEL 1–3 through IFC), permitting, EPC contracting, construction administration, commissioning, and handover on at least two full-lifecycle projects.
  • Bias for action, strong ownership mentality, and high tolerance for ambiguity when integrating novel power solutions into accelerated capital delivery schedules.
  • Commitment to safety leadership, quality assurance, and collaborative execution aligned with Intersect's stated values.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Project Managers to develop and maintain project execution plans covering scope, schedule, budget, and risk from development through commercial operations.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams and external partners on FEED studies from FEL 1–3 through IFC, reviewing engineering deliverables, vendor submittals, and construction approaches for natural gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and Balance of Plant systems.
  • Support the EPC contract lifecycle and lead day-to-day coordination with EPC contractors, consultants, and OEM vendors to align engineering, procurement, and field execution.
  • Execute first-of-a-kind technology pilot projects and test facilities to validate microgrid control strategies and de-risk commercial deployment.
  • Manage the physical and software integration of power equipment, including reciprocating engines, gas turbines, BESS, MV switchgear, PDCs, load banks, and grid simulators.
  • Define pilot success criteria with engineering teams, analyze test results, and inform executive scale-up and capital investment decisions.
  • Track project budgets, purchase orders, and invoices; manage procurement timelines and expedite critical OEM equipment and Balance of Plant materials.
  • Evaluate contractor change requests, negotiate scope and cost impacts with vendors, and maintain change logs and construction documentation, including RFIs, submittals, and technical deliverables.
  • Prepare executive dashboards and milestone status reports that identify critical-path risks and mitigation plans.
