About The Position

The Milken Institute is seeking an Associate to support the Milken Institute's Business and Program Development, Programmatic Fundraising team in Washington, DC. This role offers an opportunity to support the Programmatic Fundraising Team as a key player in an entrepreneurial, growing, and dynamic global organization involved in some of the most important global issues. The position will work closely with Business & Program Development and programmatic colleagues across the Strategic Philanthropy Pillar by conducting prospect research for new funders/partners, assisting the team in drafting supporter proposals and communications, supporting engagement for donor and prospects across the Institute’s platform of events, and contributing to ongoing business development deliverables as needed, as well as the administrative support for the renewals of the Philanthropy Leadership Collective (PLC) memberships. This role is expected to actively use AI and other available tools to support day-to-day responsibilities, with continued attention to accuracy and quality in all final deliverables. This position will also be responsible for capturing updates and providing administrative support for revenue pipeline management, deliverable tracking, and project management for the Programmatic Fundraising Team. The right candidate will add value to an extraordinary portfolio of existing relationships within the Programmatic Pillars—including global financial institutions, corporate, investment, public policy, and foundation leaders and members of the philanthropic community—by developing a strong knowledge of their businesses to proactively find and pursue opportunities for growing the relationships. This candidate will have exceptional organizational and communication skills. Individuals with a passion for outside of the box thinking and tech for good mindset, along with experience in fundraising, relationship management, partnership and proposal development, and project management are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in nonprofit development, partnership building, and/or wealth management
  • A proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented and enthusiastic administrative professional with prior relevant experience supporting senior managers and proven ability to multi-task while handling complex projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and respond promptly to internal and external communications
  • Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solutions and resolve issues
  • Motivated self-starter and hard worker displaying high productivity and follow-through in all areas of responsibility
  • Team-oriented individual who seeks out tasks when work is completed and assists colleagues to ensure goals, requirements, and deadlines are achieved

  • Willingness to provide on-site support at select events on nights or weekends, as appropriate, on occasion
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and mentality essential given the close involvement with the programmatic work of the Milken Institute
  • Interest in and familiarity with AI platforms and tools, with an eagerness to apply them to improve research, writing, and process efficiency
  • An individual with particular interest in philanthropy and social innovation
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); CRM or Salesforce experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work to manage renewals, pipelines, and account stewardship across the Strategic Philanthropy Pillar areas, including Environmental and Social Innovation (Building the Future Portfolio, Prize Program), the Philanthropy Leadership Collective (Social Innovation Collective, SPARC Collective, Corporate Philanthropy Leadership Collective), Science Philanthropy Accelerator for Research and Collaboration (Rare Disease, Oncology, Mental Health, Neurological Disorders, Science Ecosystem)
  • Manage data-entry tasks, including but not limited to CRM management in Salesforce and programming tracking software
  • Assist in external and internal meeting scheduling and other administrative responsibilities for the Business & Program Development team to support specific Strategic Philanthropy prospect engagement or around signature events, as needed
  • Draft externally facing emails, proposals, and discussion documents for relationship managers
  • Provide project management support and deliverable tracking for project funding
  • Leverage AI tools and other digital tools to support prospect research and identify opportunities to improve team processes
  • Coordinate logistics and program development for Milken Institute events worldwide, including the Global Conference, Asia Summit, and the Middle East and Africa Summit, among others
  • Liaise with Strategic Philanthropy Program Leads to ensure goals are being met and managed
  • Support the Programmatic Fundraising Team in identifying potential attendees and presenters, conducting outreach, developing and reviewing communications and related content, prepping confirmed speakers, and coordinating with the Milken Institute in support of events
  • Other duties as assigned
