About The Position

The University of Arkansas is seeking a 9-month Associate Professor for a joint position in the Department of Physics and the Institute for Integrative and Innovator Research (I³R). This role requires a candidate with a demonstrated, nationally recognized research program that includes translational and/or entrepreneurship components, with the potential for sustained growth. The ideal candidate will have a lead role in projects related to health sciences or medical device development, utilizing expertise in areas such as materials, neuroscience, nanotechnologies, and bioelectronics. Responsibilities include developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate curriculum, contributing to the profession nationally, establishing collaborations with academic, industrial, government, and non-profit sectors, and demonstrating capabilities in establishing policies and processes that support growth in research and entrepreneurship. The candidate will also be expected to develop and implement STEM education or workforce training programs, lead teams to achieve research and entrepreneurial objectives, secure funding, establish R&D policies, disseminate knowledge through publications and talks, and participate in national and international events. A strong commitment to an inclusive, team-based, mission-driven, agile, and flexible environment is essential, as is regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance and the ability to maintain collegial working relationships.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field related to the Institute’s mission conferred by the start of employment.
• Experience supervising mentoring graduate students and/or technical staff.
• Evidence of productivity and an active research or entrepreneurship agenda commensurate with rank.
• Grants/research contracts from extramural sources (federal, state, industry, philanthropic and other).
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

• Experience with engagement with Industry, not-for-profit, governmental organizations nationally and internationally.
• Experience leading project teams and lead role on one or more projects.
• Demonstrable supervision of postdoctoral, doctoral and undergraduate students.
• Record of securing successful contracts, grants, foundation, or other external funding.
• Evidence of technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and community/clinical/industry engagement or knowledge of translational pathways to move medical technology, data science, or materials research solutions to commercialization.
• National recognition of subject matter expertise through publications, patents, invited presentations.

• Knowledge dissemination through formal or informal avenues.

• Form and lead diverse, cross-disciplinary teams to define and achieve research and entrepreneurial objectives.
• Establish policies, processes, and governance that enable sustainable R&D growth and translational success.
• Build public–private partnerships with industry, non-profits, and government (regional, national, international).
• Advance solutions along translational pathways toward pilots, clinical/field validation, and commercialization (when appropriate), including regulatory and IP considerations.
• Mentor graduate students and/or supervise technical staff.
