About The Position

This role involves leading the Communication in Health Professions Education Unit (COHPE) at Monash University. COHPE is a specialist academic department that focuses on applied linguistics and health communication theory to prepare students and clinical educators for diverse healthcare environments. The Director and Associate Professor (Education-Focused) will provide strategic and operational leadership, oversee program development and delivery, lead the Health Educators Program, drive educational innovation, and manage unit performance. The position is based at the Clayton campus and operates across multiple campuses and clinical sites.

Requirements

A doctoral qualification in applied linguistics or linguistics
Extensive experience developing and delivering communication programs within health professions education
Demonstrated academic leadership, including curriculum design, review, and team development
A record of education scholarship appropriate to a Level D Education Focused academic
Experience engaging with multilingual learner cohorts and clinical placement environments
Ability to advise senior academic and clinical stakeholders on communication education strategy

Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Unit, overseeing program development, delivery, evaluation, and reporting to Faculty senior management
Lead the COHPE Health Educators Program (CHEP), supporting placement educators working with students from diverse and multilingual backgrounds
Drive educational innovation and scholarship of teaching and learning with a focus on interactional communication skills in clinical and placement contexts
Manage unit performance, lead projects, and ensure COHPE activities align with Faculty strategic priorities
