About The Position

The Division of Biomedical Informatics and AI in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or non-tenure track Associate or Full Professor faculty position in Biomedical Informatics. We seek nationally recognized leaders whose research advances the science and practice of clinical informatics and learning health systems through the innovative use of health data, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence. Candidates with expertise in clinical informatics, learning health systems, healthcare AI, implementation science, clinical decision support, health outcomes research, real-world data, healthcare delivery innovation, and related areas are particularly encouraged to apply. We also welcome applications from outstanding investigators across the broad spectrum of biomedical informatics, including translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, public health informatics, consumer health informatics, and other emerging areas of data-intensive biomedical science. Faculty rank and track will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and scholarly accomplishments.

Requirements

• PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in biomedical informatics, computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated research productivity, current extramural grant funding, and potential for securing future independent research funding.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership in clinical informatics, learning health systems, healthcare AI, or related biomedical informatics domains.
• Develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program that advances healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, population health, or biomedical discovery through informatics and AI.
• Collaborate with MUSC Health, academic departments, research centers, and health system leaders to design, implement, and evaluate data-driven innovations that improve care and support continuous learning within the health system.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams leveraging EHR, clinical, operational, and other real-world data sources to address important clinical and public health challenges.
• Mentor faculty, fellows, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and trainees in informatics and data science.
• Contribute to biomedical informatics, data science, and AI education across graduate, professional, and continuing education programs.
• Foster collaborations across MUSC and external partners to expand the impact of biomedical informatics and AI on research, education, and healthcare transformation.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives within the Division of Biomedical Informatics and AI and support the growth of MUSC's informatics and AI ecosystem.
