About The Position

Coppin State University is seeking an Associate Professor of Mathematics to also serve as the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. This role requires strong leadership skills and knowledge in mathematics, computer science, or cybersecurity engineering. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in research, teaching, and service, suitable for an Associate Professor with tenure. The position emphasizes leadership in supporting students and colleagues, with a focus on program growth and increasing enrollment. Coppin State University, founded in 1900, is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU) serving approximately 2,500 students through various course formats.

Requirements

A terminal degree in Mathematics from an accredited university.
At least three years of experience in higher education leadership.
Experience in teaching courses in mathematics with a research-related background in one or more of the identified areas (mathematics, computer science, or cybersecurity engineering).
An established record of leadership and supervisory experience.
Outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and skills in program planning, project management, and academic administration.
Evidence of successful collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion.
Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.

Demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Possess knowledge of areas housed within the department, specifically mathematics, computer science, or cybersecurity engineering.
Present research, teaching, and service documentation that will result in hire at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
Bring a leadership background that demonstrates experience in providing support to students and strong interaction with colleagues in support of the academic unit with the intent and ability to grow programs and increase enrollment.

Responsibilities

Support the growth and development of the department (students, faculty, staff, and programs), including program growth, accreditation, program review and approval processes, strategic planning, building external partnerships, supporting retention activities, advising, etc.
Deliver instruction up to 6 credits in mathematics.
Enhance research experience with the goal of further developing an active research and publication agenda within the department.
Provide service on Departmental, College, and University-Wide Committees.
Perform other tasks necessary to support the activities within the department.
