About The Position

AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm dedicated to delivering a better world through various projects. This role is for an Associate Principal in Infrastructure & Asset Management, focused on expanding the Asset Management practice across the West Coast and adjacent markets. The position involves leading complex, multi-site programs related to facility condition assessments (FCA), capital investment (CapEx) planning, and maintenance and lifecycle planning. The Associate Principal will act as a trusted advisor to clients on long-term asset strategies, supporting the growth of client relationships and identifying new opportunities. This is a full-time, remote position, requiring candidates to be based on the West Coast (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, or Portland). AECOM's West Region Asset Management practice collaborates with broader service lines to provide integrated solutions that help organizations make informed decisions regarding asset maintenance, repair, and replacement, aligning infrastructure investments with operational and strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading complex, multi-site programs and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong client-facing experience with the ability to advise on capital investment, asset management, and lifecycle planning strategies.
  • BA/BS in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or related field; or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • 8+ years of experience in facility condition assessments (FCA), capital planning, asset management, or related infrastructure services.
  • Periodic travel, including driving, flying, and overnight stays, is expected to support client engagements, multi-site program oversight, and strategic pursuits.
  • Clean DMV record (if driving is part of the job responsibilities).
  • U.S. citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience delivering large-scale, multi-site or portfolio-level programs, including facility condition assessments (FCA), capital planning, and maintenance and lifecycle planning.
  • Experience working with public-sector or institutional clients, such as municipalities, counties, K-12, higher education, or transportation agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate asset data and assessment findings into capital investment strategies, prioritization frameworks, and long-range planning efforts.
  • Experience supporting client relationship management, proposal development, and strategic pursuits, including identification of follow-on opportunities and program expansion.
  • Experience using asset management systems and tools to support facility assessments, capital planning, and lifecycle decision-making.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior client stakeholders and facilitating discussions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and geographies, supporting both program delivery and regional growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with West Region Asset Management leadership to shape and execute market and client engagement strategies, supporting priority pursuits, strengthening key client relationships, and aligning delivery efforts with regional growth objectives.
  • Lead delivery of complex, multi-site programs including facility condition assessments (FCA), capital investment (CapEx) planning, and maintenance and lifecycle planning initiatives across diverse client portfolios.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, translating asset data and assessment findings into actionable capital and operational strategies that support long-term asset performance.
  • Oversee development of key deliverables including capital improvement plans (CIPs), lifecycle models, prioritization frameworks, and funding strategies.
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering, and cost estimating to ensure high-quality, consistent program delivery.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships, supporting ongoing engagement and identifying opportunities to expand services and deliver additional value.
  • Support proposal development, interviews, and capture efforts, contributing to the continued growth of AECOM’s Asset Management practice across the region.
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership in the planning and execution of asset management programs, including alignment with client goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of AECOM’s Asset Management practice, helping refine delivery approaches, service offerings, tools, and standards to support scalable, high-quality program execution.
  • Mentor and guide deputy project managers, technical staff, and junior team members, supporting team development and strengthening delivery capabilities.
