About The Position

Grace Baptist Church in Grand Forks, ND is seeking an Associate Pastor to share in carrying out God’s purpose, vision, and mission for His church. The purpose of Grace Baptist Church is to glorify God, the vision is to be a community of true disciples, and the mission is to advance the kingdom of God. This position will assist the lead pastor in shepherding the church, with particular responsibility for leading the Youth Ministry (Middle School and High School) and Young Adult Ministry (Post High School). The role involves providing spiritual leadership through preaching and discipleship, demonstrating competency in scripture study, and equipping people to be disciples. A key responsibility is the primary oversight of youth and young adult ministries, providing directional leadership in cooperation with the Lead Pastor and Board of Elders.

Requirements

  • Meets the qualifications for a pastor as listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
  • Testimony and faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Mature and growing Christian character.
  • Agreement with the Grace Baptist Church Statement of Faith
  • Master of Divinity degree or Master of Theology/Theological Studies degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited theological school
  • Two years of ministry experience
  • Willing to work on-site, except when duties require otherwise

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual leadership to the church’s ministries through biblically sound preaching, discipleship, and exemplifying godly character.
  • Preach and teach God’s Word with the purpose of individual and corporate spiritual growth and maturity in Christ.
  • Demonstrate competency and excellence in the study of the scripture and equipping people to be disciples.
  • Provide primary oversight of youth ministry and young adult ministry. Shepherd and provide directional leadership to these ministries in cooperation with the Lead Pastor and Board of Elders.
  • Assist the Lead Pastor in the evaluation of the overall ministries of Grace Baptist Church in cooperation with the Board of Elders.
  • Develop ministry opportunities and skills of the present staff and lay leadership, reaching the unsaved while equipping the church body to utilize their spiritual gifts.
  • Provide oversight of all activities, communication, and necessary coordination of ministries. Communicate effectively with church staff, the church body, young adults, youth, and their parents.
  • Provide key oversight of leadership training, taking an active role in guiding those leading this training and ensuring its continuation.
  • Foster a positive relationship with church staff and lay leaders, creating and maintaining a work environment of mutual respect to enable effective development and exercise of spiritual gifts.
  • Be accessible, supportive, and available for prayer to all church leadership.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all boards and committees to provide guidance and input on the church budget, recruitment of church staff, church policy and procedures, staff training and direction, and coordination of fiscal matters.
  • Meet regularly with the Board of Elders, Leadership Advisory Council, and other boards as invited, or as an overseer of their ministries.
  • Equip youth and young adult ministries for serving Christ by providing strong Biblical teaching.
  • Model personal evangelism and ensure students and young adults are challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission.
  • Serve as the primary teacher for youth Sunday School and Youth Group gatherings.
  • Recruit, equip, and shepherd adult volunteers for youth ministry, ensuring proper vetting through background checks.
  • Plan and lead youth events, retreats, and mission trips.
  • Form connections with local schools, youth organizations, and ministries.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the young adult ministry leadership team.
  • Equip and disciple young adult ministry leaders.
  • Assist the young adult leadership team in planning monthly gatherings.
  • Form connections with local colleges and young adult ministries.
  • Organize Sunday morning transportation for university students.
  • Preach 3-5 times a year in the Lead Pastor’s absence.
  • Participate in the Sunday AM worship service as requested.
  • Participate in staff meetings and continued development of the church’s overall ministry.
  • Be available for hospital visitations and family crises requiring spiritual support.
  • Counsel young adults, students, and others, referring to the lead pastor or qualified counselors for professional or out-of-scope needs.
  • Invest time into personal growth, including studying God's Word, prayer, marriage and family, gift development (conferences), and developing relationships with ministry leaders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor and Elders.
