About The Position

Newsweek is seeking an Associate Editor to join its US digital newsroom, focusing on AI-assisted news production. This role is for a journalist passionate about the intersection of emergent technology and editorial excellence. The Associate News Editor will be at the forefront of a new era in journalism, leveraging AI tools to produce multiple stories daily while ensuring accuracy, clarity, and quality. They will play a key role in integrating generative AI and automation tools into the newsroom. The role involves generating, editing, and publishing content at scale, allowing other journalists to focus on beat development, interviews, and investigative reporting. Collaboration with reporters to ensure originality and with editors to maintain high standards is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience covering US news (politics, current affairs, culture), a fast-paced newsroom background, confidence in digital content production (sourcing, writing, editing, publishing), sound editorial judgment, and a solid understanding of media law. The Associate Editor will work closely with the US News Editor to support daily coverage, sourcing, pitching, writing, and editing multiple stories per day, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with Newsweek’s standards. Adaptability to new tools, platforms, methods, and techniques for digital news reporting is crucial. The Associate News Editor is responsible for ensuring high-quality, accurate, and fair coverage conforming to journalistic standards, and performing other reasonable duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in digital news journalism, with a background in reporting, pitching and assigning stories, and competency with editing and publishing.
  • Sound editorial judgment and understanding of media law.
  • Ability to produce and edit content under tight deadlines.
  • Organization and planning skills.
  • Proficiency with digital publishing tools, content management systems, and editing software.
  • Familiarity with standard IT tools such as Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, edit, and publish multiple AI-assisted stories daily.
  • Apply editorial judgment to ensure AI-generated content meets standards for accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
  • Continuously learn and implement new AI technologies to enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to breaking news.
  • Monitor multiple sources for emerging stories, trends and topics.
  • Pitch original ideas, topics and beats to cover that complement automated coverage.
  • Collaborate with the US News Editor and wider editorial team on projects and coverage plans.
  • Ensure all content meets Newsweek’s standards for accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
  • Perform other reasonable editorial duties as required.
