About The Position

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has an exciting opportunity to fill an existing vacancy for a temporary full-time Associate Manager, Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) team until September 2027. Reporting to the Manager, Vaccine Preventable Disease, this position will assist with efficient and effective delivery of the VPD program as part of a leadership team. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the multi-disciplinary VPD team, which is responsible for the delivery of multiple interventions aimed at preventing vaccine-preventable diseases in the community. This includes implementation of the Immunization of School Pupils Act, administration of vaccines in school and community clinics, vaccine management and assessing cold-chain compliance in the community. The VPD team also works closely with other teams within the Environmental Health, Infectious Diseases and Clinical Services (EHIDCS) Division in order to administer vaccine as needed for outbreak management.

Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is required.
  • Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO) is required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in public health, which includes a minimum of one year experience in a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with relevant Regulations and Guidelines as well as the Ontario Public Health Standards, legislations and protocols is required.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Expertise in working with diverse populations, as well as demonstrated understanding of and experience in addressing health inequities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a safe work environment.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively collaborate with others.
  • Excellent computer skills in the areas of documentation and MS Office, as well as proficiency with public health information systems and Panorama.

  • Knowledge of the principles of health equity, and why it is a foundational standard for public health. This includes the demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and/or communities to advance public health priorities;
  • Excellent computer skills, with emphasis on MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams); and
  • Ability to communicate in French or any other languages would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Providing input and assistance with schedules, workload distribution and assignments, and communicating these to the team, including arranging coverage for various job roles.
  • Overseeing and supporting the work of team members and troubleshooting problems arising in daily work activities.
  • Being available to frontline staff during their workday if they have questions or require direction.
  • Proactively identifying areas for improvement, seeking solutions, and making recommendations.
  • Providing coaching, development, and mentoring to team, including clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Assisting with the recruitment, training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Responsibility for performance management and annual evaluations of direct reports.
  • Responding to complaints from the public and resolving related performance issues.
  • Supporting team members with complex clinical/client interactions, providing guidance and assessment based on applicable regulatory body standards (e.g. CNO).
  • Supporting planning and leading implementation of staff continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensuring that staff function in accordance with relevant legislation and guidelines, and service area and agency policies and procedures.
  • Supporting the Manager, VPD in maintaining and managing fiscal resources, budget and reporting requirements.
  • Implementing continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives and reports.
  • Identifying and handling program-related issues and escalations raised by team members, including recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Providing back-up coverage for other leaders on the team.
  • Flexible work hours are required, with an expectation to be on-call within a rotation.
  • Other duties as required.
