About The Position

HUNTER is looking for an Associate Manager, Earned Media Strategy + Outreach to join its internal Media Team in its New York office. The internal Media Team is built on collaboration, providing expert support to the larger agency client teams and a roster of Fortune 500 clients across food & beverage, spirits, home & lifestyle, health & beauty, tech, and travel. This role is for a news-obsessed "doer" who is ready to get in the trenches to support media strategies and secure the kind of earned coverage that keeps clients at the heart of the cultural conversation. This role is ideal for a resourceful, organized problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to grow their career in media relations.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of PR agency or media relations experience where you’ve begun to "earn your stripes" in outreach and research.
  • A degree in PR, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with Muckrack, Meltwater, and Critical Mention.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint) and Slack.
  • A team player that shares credit, shows respect, and is always looking for opportunities to improve writing skills and grow professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Be a Headline Junkie: Live and breathe the news and have your pulse on consumer, entertainment, lifestyle, and sports media. Spot trending stories and closely track the ever-evolving media landscape.
  • Build Your Rolodex: Be in the early stages of building a "gold star" media contact list. Ask an editor to coffee. Cultivate long-term relationships with key contacts across print, online, and social outlets. Explore niche newsletters, podcasts, and digital news creators.
  • Be the Information Hub: Help organize resources and manage internal communications for the media team, including compiling and sharing editor updates, industry news, and upcoming editorial calendars.
  • Dig for the Story: Conduct deep-dive media audits on competitors or research new journalists, providing thoughtful insights and POVs that help shape campaign strategy.
  • Secure the Coverage: Draft compelling pitches, build extensive and thoughtful media lists, and conduct outreach to secure placements for talent photos, events, and campaign launches.
  • Drive the Process: Contribute to account team calls and internal meetings by assisting with scheduling, creating agendas, and drafting recap notes.
  • Own the Logistics: Develop first drafts of media briefing documents and assist with scheduling and logistics of celebrity spokesperson interviews.
  • Sharp Eye for Detail: Ensure all media materials, from pitch letters to follow-ups, are top-notch and error-free.
  • Ability To Navigate the New: Demonstrate curiosity for emerging media, including how LLMs/AI and social search are changing the PR industry.
  • Drive Collaboration: Proactively participate in agency brainstorms for client programs, bringing a fresh, media-first lens.
  • Stay Organized: Manage multiple tasks across several accounts simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization and professional maturity.
  • Stay Cool Under Pressure: Juggle tight deadlines and fast-moving requests from various teams.
  • Be Agile: Work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate client events and after-hours work as needed.
