About The Position

Our Legal team has an exciting opportunity for an adaptable lawyer to join them as Associate Legal Counsel. In this role, you will provide day-to-day legal and regulatory support to multiple commercial property and casualty underwriting business units as well as internal operational areas. You'll play a key role in shaping innovative insurance products, negotiating commercial agreements, and collaborating with internal teams to support business growth.

Requirements

  • Law Degree from an accredited law school is required, and you must be a licensed attorney in at least one State.
  • Some in-house and/or law firm experience in commercial property and casualty insurance
  • Knowledgeable in insurance laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with business clients.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and solve problems in an efficient manner.
  • Eagerness to learn about new lines of business, products and processes.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks under time pressure.
  • Not afraid to ask questions.
  • Willingness to learn and to drive your own professional growth.
  • Proactive problem-solver who is able to facilitate discussions and engage with colleagues at different levels of seniority.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of US commercial lines business units including provision of creative and timely legal advice and guidance on wide range of insurance/reinsurance and corporate issues as well as guidance on business and contractual matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate large variety of commercial contracts including producer, program administrator, confidentiality, third party administrator, vendor, risk consulting, indemnity, etc.
  • Assist in product development and existing product support, including advising on coverage terms and conditions, providing guidance on product, rate, and form filings, and responding to insurance department objections
  • Parner with Compliance to monitor legal and regulatory developments, assess business impact, and provide actionable guidance to the business; respond to regulatory inquiries and consumer complaints; advise on non-renewal/cancellation requirements
  • Provide cross-functional legal support to other internal operational areas, including Marketing, Communications, Operations, Finance, Claims, and Risk Consulting
  • Research and analyze wide range of insurance and non-insurance legal and compliance issues
  • Retain and manage outside counsel as necessary
