As an Associate in Investment Banking, Energy, you will be part of Global Banking and Markets (GBM), a leading Capital Markets and Investment Banking platform with a competitive presence across the Americas. Scotiabank’s strong US presence provides clients an important bridge to this key global market for trade and investment flows. GBM offers a full range of investment banking, credit, and risk management products and services. We are seeking an individual to coordinate workstreams, support execution, and mentor/supervise Analysts, progressively taking on increased responsibilities on live transactions and participating in business development under the guidance of senior group members. Contribute to the team's success by executing individual goals and initiatives in alignment with business strategies and objectives, ensuring compliance with all governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years’ work experience in Investment Banking, Consulting, Corporate Development or Private Equity.
  • Prior energy transaction experience preferred.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Economics, Engineering, Science or other STEM subject.
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting, and financial theory.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all FINRA licenses required for the role.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining high work standards.
  • Ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment.
  • Independent thinker and proven ability to take initiative and make decisions.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and intellectual curiosity.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a client-centric culture focused on deepening client relationships and leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge to deliver solutions and generate revenue.
  • Coordinate with various product groups and industry teams within GBM.
  • Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with legal counsel, external parties, and clients.
  • Apply knowledge of M&A, financing products, valuation, and capital markets to support client solution development.
  • Collect, consolidate, and interpret company and industry data.
  • Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and create/maintain financial models.
  • Conduct financial and written analysis of companies and industries.
  • Support the identification and development of business opportunities and prepare materials for client discussions.
  • Prepare client presentations, including compiling data and assembling materials.
  • Support transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability.
  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives.
  • Develop more junior bankers on their team and across CIB and GBM through active engagement, providing technical, coverage, and leadership skill development, and real-time feedback.
  • Actively partner with group leaders and the broader team to build team dynamics and engagement.
