About The Position

Global Markets Credit ("GMC") is responsible for the structuring, underwriting, approval, monitoring, and ongoing management of credit exposures arising from TD Securities' Global Markets activities. The team partners closely with Front Office, Credit Risk Management, Market Risk, Legal, Operations, and other stakeholders to provide timely and effective credit solutions while maintaining a strong risk management framework. GMC Commodities Associate is responsible for supporting the Commodities Sales & Trading Desks through the analysis, approval, and ongoing management of a diversified portfolio of commodities clients. The role provides coverage across a broad range of counterparties operating throughout the commodities value chain, including energy, base and precious metals, and carbon markets. Clients include upstream producers, midstream operators, refiners, commodity merchants, processors, recyclers, metal traders, and other participants across North American and international markets. Working closely with Commodities Sales & Trading and other internal stakeholders, the Associate will evaluate new business opportunities, formulate credit recommendations, support transaction structuring, and monitor portfolio performance across a range of products, including leasing, inventory financing, physical commodity transactions, derivatives trading, and other Global Markets exposures.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree in Business (Accounting or Finance), Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Series 7, 79 and 63
3+ Years of related experience

Nice To Haves

MBA and/or CFA would be an asset.
2-5 years of credit underwriting experience with energy companies and/or energy-related industries.
Knowledge of energy markets, including upstream, midstream, downstream, power, and commodity trading sectors, would be an asset.
Strong financial analysis skills, including the ability to assess financial performance, liquidity, leverage, cash flow generation, and credit risk.
Familiarity with credit documentation, ISDAs, NAESBs, GasEDI agreements, loan agreements, and other transaction documentation would be an asset.
Knowledge of derivatives, structured commodity finance, or physical commodity markets would be an asset.

Responsibilities

Prepare and recommend high-quality credit submissions relating to new business proposals, annual reviews, interim reviews, and transaction approvals for clients primarily operating across the commodities value chain, including energy, base and precious metals, and carbon markets.
Analyze and structure a broad range of trading related products, including derivative and financing facilities.
Assess and support transactions involving physical commodity supply chains, including inventory financing, storage arrangements, leasing structures, and other structured commodity finance solutions.
Conduct detailed company, industry, and market analysis, and formulate well-supported credit and borrower risk rating recommendations.
Liaise closely with Commodities Sales & Trading, Credit Risk Management, and other stakeholders to support transaction structuring, business development initiatives, and strategic growth objectives.
Liaise with internal Legal and Documentation teams to assist in structuring and documenting credit facilities and transaction-related agreements.
Ongoing monitoring of counterparty performance and credit exposures, including compliance with authorized credit limits and terms, conditions, and reporting requirements
Identify emerging credit, market, operational, and reputational risks and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
Demonstrates governance, control and risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices.
Reviews and investigates trading excesses. Prepares daily excess reports and/or inventory reports
Reviews daily requests for trading lines and obtaining required approvals via CAIRO or email
Reviews daily ratings alerts and notification of Borrower Risk Rating upgrades / downgrades and prepares CAIRO credit reviews to reflect rating changes
Maintains internal Credit Management trading line logs
Prepares monthly reports
Maintains required documentation for internal audit
Prepares other related materials as required
Ensures backups for monitoring and control function for the Loan/High Yield Sales and Trading and Cross Asset Trading portfolios are complete
