About The Position

Mapbox is seeking an Associate General Counsel with 7+ years of experience to join its legal team. This role focuses on product counseling and commercial transactions, including complex data in-licenses, customer sales, and automotive OEM deals. The position involves close collaboration with product and engineering teams, requiring a deep understanding of Mapbox's products, APIs, and SDKs. The ideal candidate will be technically savvy, a strong communicator, and adept at mitigating and accepting risk to facilitate complex deals in a fast-paced technology environment. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on driving business objectives through practical legal solutions and continuous improvement of legal operations and forms to support a growing company. Prior experience in a pre-IPO company is considered helpful.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of practicing attorney experience.
  • 2+ years at a top-tier law firm in any area.
  • 5+ years in-house at a technology company in sales-side commercial transactions (not procurement or privacy/regulatory compliance).
  • JD degree from a top-tier law school.
  • Active membership in at least one US state bar.
  • Excellent communication skills (clear and concise writing and verbal communication).
  • Practical and customer-centric orientation and negotiation style.
  • Ability to become conversant with and draft agreements based on specific customer use cases and technical implementations.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive into a variety of legal issues.
  • Ability to take feedback.
  • A sense of humor.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree (Computer engineering, computer science, or similar).
  • 2-4 years of experience in software patent litigation or patent prosecution at a top-tier firm.
  • Extensive experience working with APIs and SDKs.
  • Experience working on complex sales deals.
  • Prior work in a pre-IPO company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on product and commercial matters, including complex data in-licenses, customer sales, and automotive OEM deals.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to understand product use cases and technical implementations.
  • Draft and negotiate complex sales agreements, data in-licenses, and OEM deals.
  • Mitigate and accept risk to facilitate the completion of complex deals.
  • Own the deal process from a legal perspective.
  • Develop and improve operational processes and update legal forms to support scaling the legal department.
  • Handle a variety of legal issues in a cross-functional manner.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment, providing and receiving feedback.
