About The Position

The Department of Anthropology at Yale University is seeking to hire a full-time tenured associate or full professor specializing in the sociocultural anthropology of South Asia. The position begins as early as January 1, 2028, and the specific area of specialization is open. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within sociocultural anthropology and South Asian studies. These courses can cover theoretical, topical, methodological, and other relevant areas based on the appointee's specialization. The typical teaching load is four courses per academic year, in addition to departmental and university service. Mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students is also a key expectation of the role. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required for this position.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
  • Tenured associate or full professor level.
  • Expertise in the sociocultural anthropology of South Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sociocultural anthropology and South Asian studies.
  • Offer courses that may include theoretical, topical, methodological, and/or other offerings, as appropriate to specialization.
  • Fulfill a teaching expectation of normally four courses per academic year.
  • Provide service to the department and university.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
