ASSOCIATE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Bascom Hunter Technologies•St. George, LA

About The Position

Bascom Hunter is seeking an Associate Electrical Systems Engineer to support the definition, integration, and verification of aerospace electrical systems for defense applications. Products include environmental control systems (ECS), motor drives, electronic control units, power distribution, and electrical interconnects. This position welcomes new graduates and engineers with approximately 0–2 years of relevant experience. Working under senior-engineer guidance, you will develop requirements and interface documentation, perform electrical analyses, and support hands-on integration and testing. Assignments will grow in scope and independence as you build technical capability; system architecture and compliance decisions remain subject to senior technical review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering completed by the employment start date.
  • No prior full-time engineering experience is required.
  • Foundational knowledge of circuit analysis, voltage, current, power, and analog and digital signals; ability to read basic electrical schematics and block diagrams.
  • Practical experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, or similar laboratory instruments through coursework, projects, internships, or employment.
  • Ability to organize and analyze data, document calculations and test results, and communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, willingness to seek guidance, and ability to work effectively on a technical team.
  • U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Integrated electrical or electromechanical projects involving sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, power distribution, or motor drives.
  • Requirements documentation, interface definition, system integration, verification testing, or wiring and harness design.
  • MATLAB, Simulink, Python, LabVIEW, SolidWorks Electrical, Altium Designer, or requirements management tools.
  • Communications interfaces such as RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, or I2C; basic grounding, shielding, or EMI/EMC concepts.
  • Aerospace or defense applications, including familiarity with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, AS50881, or IPC/WHMA-A-620.

Responsibilities

  • Complete defined engineering assignments, document assumptions and results, and communicate progress, questions, and technical issues to the project lead.
  • Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, software, mechanical, test, and manufacturing teams to understand interfaces and resolve assigned integration issues.
  • Prepare calculations, diagrams, and test results for design reviews; incorporate feedback and close assigned actions.
  • Assist in translating customer and system requirements into measurable electrical subsystem requirements and maintaining traceability to verification activities.
  • Develop and update electrical block diagrams, interconnection schematics, and interface control documents (ICDs), including pin assignments, signal levels, power needs, and communications interfaces.
  • Perform power-budget, load-current, and voltage-drop calculations for 28 VDC and 270 VDC systems using established methods and senior-engineer review.
  • Support harness and connector selection, wire sizing, signal segregation, and documentation of grounding, bonding, and shielding provisions.
  • Document operating modes, startup and shutdown sequences, built-in test, and fault responses with hardware, FPGA, and software engineers.
  • Collect engineering data for trade studies, failure analyses, and assessments of electrical compatibility across connected equipment.
  • Assist in preparing test setups, instrumentation, representative loads, and procedures; execute approved integration and verification tests and record results against acceptance criteria.
  • Help troubleshoot power, wiring, sensor, actuator, and communications issues; document anomalies and confirm corrective actions with the responsible engineers.
  • Support environmental and EMI/EMC testing, prototype builds, and production acceptance testing under established procedures and laboratory safety practices.
  • Maintain requirements matrices, interface documents, test records, and engineering changes using established configuration-control practices.
  • Learn and apply assigned customer requirements and relevant aerospace standards under guidance; compile evidence for engineering review and compliance verification.
