About The Position

Department 482 Electrical Systems seeks motivated engineers to oversee the development and integration of multiple VIRGINIA Class submarine electrical and electronic systems, including camera and light, hydraulic indication and control, communications, and secondary propulsion systems. Engineers work with Electric Boat engineering and design organizations, shipyard trades, program office, procurement, planning, vendors, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton, and NAVSEA organizations and subcontractors. The work is primarily electrical systems engineering: reading and writing requirements, reviewing test procedures and technical drawings, and coordinating system development. It involves developing correspondence, technical papers, presentations, plans, and schedules; creating and reviewing hardware, software, and interface requirements; and reviewing procurement specifications and subcontractor statements of work for traceability to ship and system requirements. Engineers select system components and cables; support 3D product-model development and reviews across Concept, Arrangement, and Detail Design; review design products such as drawings, cabling diagrams, wiring tables, schematics, and cable routing; review test procedures and reports; develop and review technical manuals and operating instructions; and manage risks and component obsolescence. Occasional travel is required. The role involves minimal software coding and engineering calculations.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with electrical experience.
At least 5 years of post-graduate engineering experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the Department of Defense.
Technical reading and writing skills.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and stay organized.
Ability to understand and adhere to system requirements derived from multiple sources.

Responsibilities

Oversee development and integration of electrical and electronic systems for VIRGINIA Class submarines.
Develop written correspondence, technical papers, presentations, system and component development plans, and schedules.
Develop and review hardware, software, and interface requirement specifications.
Review procurement specifications and subcontractor statements of work to ensure traceability to ship and system requirements.
Select components and cables for systems and components.
Support 3D product-model development, review, approval, and product issue during Concept, Arrangement, and Detail Design activities.
Review design products, including assembly and detail drawings, cabling diagrams, wiring tables, schematic wiring diagrams, and cable routing.
Review test procedures and reports.
Review and develop system and component technical manuals, ship system manuals, and operating instructions.
Identify and manage system and component risks.
Manage part obsolescence and lifecycle.
Coordinate with engineering and design disciplines, shipyard trades, program office, procurement, planning, vendors, SOSG, and NAVSEA organizations and subcontractors.
Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, plan strategically, and identify and mitigate project risks.
Communicate clearly, keep stakeholders informed, maintain detailed notes, and build productive working relationships.
Analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions while meeting quality and compliance expectations.
