Associate Director, Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics

Atrium Therapeutics•San Diego, CA
•$185,000 - $205,000

About The Position

Atrium Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PKPD) function and advance research and development programs in genetic cardiomyopathy. The role is within Research and Development’s Development Sciences Department and is accountable for PKPD strategy and execution across antibody oligonucleotide conjugate programs, including bioanalytical sciences. The successful candidate will apply PKPD principles to biologic and/or oligonucleotide therapeutics to support sound, timely decisions advancing the pipeline. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role managing a team of PKPD scientists. Title and compensation will be commensurate with experience. Atrium is a biopharmaceutical company developing RNA therapeutics for the heart. Its targeted, non-viral siRNA delivery approach is designed to address genetic drivers of cardiomyopathy while potentially overcoming limitations of nonspecific viral and nanoparticle-based delivery systems.

Requirements

  • PhD in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of biopharma or biotech experience in nonclinical and clinical PKPD and regulated bioanalysis.
  • Proven record of advancing programs from research into development, authoring or supporting IND submissions, and participating in regulatory interactions.
  • Hands-on experience designing and interpreting nonclinical and clinical PK studies, including NCA, and a strong understanding of PKPD principles.
  • Working knowledge of regulated bioanalysis, including ICH M10 and GLP/GCP, and experience overseeing PK and ADA assay development and sample analysis at CROs.
  • Prior experience managing and developing scientific staff at multiple levels, including PhD and non-PhD scientists.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate complex data clearly to project teams and leadership.
  • Comfort working in a small-company environment with ambiguity; takes initiative and is a hands-on problem-solver.

Responsibilities

  • Support PKPD across programs from research through late-phase clinical development, including the design, oversight, and interpretation of nonclinical and clinical PK, TK, and tissue distribution studies.
  • Apply PKPD principles to relate exposure to target engagement and PD biomarkers, inform dose selection, and support first-in-human dose rationale; assess the impact of immunogenicity on PK where relevant.
  • Set phase-appropriate bioanalytical strategy and oversee development of GLP-compliant PK and ADA assays in plasma and tissue matrices.
  • Oversee CRO management, including RFPs, SOWs, budgets, timelines, and sample logistics.
  • Represent PKPD on project and study teams; communicate PKPD strategy and data interpretation and support regulatory documents, including IND/CTA submissions, briefing books, protocols, and clinical study reports.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop PhD and non-PhD scientists; set priorities, support career development, and build a collaborative, high-performing culture.
