They must understand the end-to-end technology stack used to deliver products to market for their teams' focus area and the basics of how products deliver value to customers. The role requires technical leadership, including understanding software architecture and design principles, staying current with technologies, and guiding teams on best practices for Agile, SDLC, and cloud-native solutions. Engineering excellence is key, ensuring code quality, promoting automation and performance optimization, and making informed decisions on technology stacks, security, data privacy, and risk management. Security and compliance with data privacy and security standards are also critical. Strategic planning involves defining clear team objectives aligned with business goals, balancing delivery speed with long-term stability and scalability, and driving innovation while managing technical debt. Team management includes hiring, mentoring, and coaching engineers, removing blockers, and creating psychological safety. Operational leadership involves partnering with Product and delivery teams, removing organizational blockers, and maintaining clear communication of priorities. Interpersonal and soft skills are critical for success, including fostering collaboration, building strong relationships with other functional areas, practicing open communication, translating complex technical concepts into business language, inspiring confidence, adapting to change, and demonstrating emotional intelligence and empathy.
