About The Position

The Associate Director of Facilities Operations engages in our mission of building an ASU community that embraces physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being of self and others through careful attention to our facilities and outdoor spaces. This position provides oversight, direction, and leadership for the facility management and supervision of the Student Unions and Centers and Sun Devil Fitness Complexes. Responsibilities will also include capital project participation, staff management, strategic planning, fiscal development, and oversight. This position will also be responsible for establishment of policies and procedures. While this position will be working primarily at the ASU Tempe location, the Associate Director of Facilities Operations works to support a team of professionals at all ASU locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including two (2) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience working in facilities management or related position
  • Experience in managing third-party service contracts
  • Evidence of working collaboratively across different constituencies for effective service delivery
  • Experience managing and developing full-time staff members and/or student worker populations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making
  • Evidence of effective written, interpersonal, oral, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience maintaining effective working relationships, presenting to audiences, public speaking, analyzing problems, proposing effective solutions, and effectively delegating responsibilities to staff
  • Experience meeting priority deadlines while providing accurate and excellent service.

Responsibilities

  • Provides management, direction, and support of the day-to-day operations for facilities, aquatics, and safety education at all Unions and Centers and Sun Devil Fitness Complexes, which includes but is not limited to identifying issues, recommending repairs/renovations, and field management.
  • Responsible for oversight of the student employees who serve as facility and building managers and onsite event leads.
  • Develops and maintains detailed facility project plans, schedules, budget tracking, resource coordination, and other documentation.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to purchase facility equipment, conduct preventative maintenance, facilitate repairs, oversee replacement, and coordinate layout and installation.
  • Works collaboratively with other facility professionals to establish priorities, responsibilities, and schedules to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities.
  • Collaborates with facilities management and ASU’s contracted dining partner to ensure dining spaces within student services facilities are well maintained and optimally utilized, including working with facilities management on the responsibility for annual maintenance of kitchen and cafeteria responsibilities (i.e., Hood Cleaning, Grease Traps).
  • Monitors the service provided through the custodial and maintenance contracts.
  • Advocates for appropriate capital expenses to manage escalating deferred maintenance or facility issues.
  • Provides fiscal oversight and budget development in area of responsibility for annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Prioritizes and approves purchase requests and expenditures and resolves budget discrepancies.
  • Collects, analyzes, and prepares reports including facility data, usage numbers, member feedback, and recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, implements safety protocols, addresses safety concerns or incidents, maintains record of accident and incident reports, monitors policies and procedures including implementation and development of department emergency action plan.
  • Serves as point of contact with ASU Environmental Health and Safety, ASU Risk, CPMG, Police Department, Student Rights and Responsibilities, and other departments as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge and strong understanding of best practices for facility and operational trends in order to implement appropriate products, equipment, and services.
  • Directs supervision of staff.
