The Associate Director is responsible for the direct physical plant operations and manages the activities of the department related to planning, estimating, and scheduling of work to ensure reliable and economical operation, maintenance, and preservation of all facilities. Assists the Director in evaluating and revising policies, procedures, and standards to meet the changing needs of the university. The position has direct responsibility for Energy Management including plant efficiency and economical operations which will be accomplished through operation programs which are both administrative by observing manual operations as well as through leveraging technology with the Facilities building management systems (BMS). The position will maximize incentive and rebate programs which are broadly available from the utility companies and the State of Connecticut to implement improvements required to achieve savings. Position will also be responsible for ensuring that facilities are operated within design parameters to achieve energy efficiency, reliability and comfort quality. Plans, schedules and manages the University’s Energy & Sustainability Management programs including operation of university-wide systems and programs including overseeing service contracts as applicable. The Associate Director, Facilities Operations, Energy & Sustainability position will be tasked with saving energy dollars through measure to operate energy system efficiently and economically. Position establishes programs, planning and budget estimating for Plant Operations and contracted maintenance activities. Responsible for the planning, estimating, and scheduling of contracted mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety project work to ensure effective and economical preservation of university facilities. Develop and communicate work priorities, oversee the administration of training programs and staffing requirements.
