About The Position

The Associate Director of Development (Major Gifts) develops strong relationships with individual donors, alumni, foundations, corporations, and friends of the institution for the purpose of securing major gifts. This role is critical in supplementing and enhancing institutional programs, activities, and educational opportunities through private fund-raising and charitable efforts. The ADA will work closely with the Vice President/Executive Director, Director of Development, and Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies that support our organization’s mission, vision, and goals. This position reports to the Assistant Executive Director / Director of Development.

Requirements

  • Strong people skills and the ability to plan and organize projects.
  • Well organized; detail oriented and have a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Familiarity with computer concepts and basic software required.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible to assist in all Foundation/Advancement areas as needed.
  • Appreciation and understanding of nonprofit entities and of Hinds Community College.
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an accredited field.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising or revenue generation, with a working knowledge of the nonprofit sector.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising, gift management, communications management, and stewardship principles.
  • Strong leadership and management skills; interest in working as a member of a team.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Hinds Community College; Alumnus preferred.
  • History of success in working with fundraising, outreach, and marketing efforts.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the Mississippi community college system
  • Ability to work with intricate computer systems, including Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, Scholarship Universe, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to accomplish stated goals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Develops strong relationships with individual donors, alumni, foundations, corporations and friends of the college for the purpose of securing major gifts.
  • Reports to the Director of Advancement and will work closely with the college President, academic officers, VP of advancement, and selected faculty to manage fund-raising efforts.
  • Ensures the foundation serves the college in a full range of development functions including prospect research, solicitation and donor stewardship, with a focus on gifts of $5,000 and above.
  • Manages a portfolio of 150 or more major gift level prospects through the entire cycle of development – from research and identification through cultivation, solicitation, closure and stewardship.
  • Completes a minimum of 24-36 major gift solicitations per year and 2-3 new face-to-face meetings per week.
  • Establishes short- and long-term goals for the development effort, including fund-raising strategies and building the case for support.
  • Utilizes appropriate development reporting processes; monitors and objectively evaluates all college fund-raising appeals; develops standard activity and progress reports for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Manages the solicitation process, including recommending proposal ask amounts and monitoring committee/volunteer assignments.
  • Ensure the proper recording, acknowledgement, and managing of gifts.
  • Utilize Foundation software programs including Scholarship Universe, Financial Edge, and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Assist with other special events and projects, such as donor appreciation, employee appreciation, building dedications, homecoming, Golf Fun Fest, and other activities.
  • Represent the Foundation at community events/meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
