About The Position

The Associate Director supports oversight and administration of the Academic Advising Center and Career Services including strategic and budgetary planning. The position will develop plans to enhance career advising outreach and collaboration across campus and grow career exploration and development programming. The Associate Director oversees and provides direction for the Career Services portion of the office, including supervision of staff. This position represents the department on various committees and work groups, and acts on behalf of the Director as requested. The review of applications starts on March 23, 2026. Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in career services or academic advising or related student services area
  • Demonstrated strong presentation or teaching skills

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain effective working relationships with employers, faculty, and other campus partners.
  • Respond to employer inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations Coordinator to create and implement employer development plans
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to understand employment needs and encourage recruitment of the institution’s students
  • Advise the Director on the needs and opportunities for employer development and corporate partnerships and involve the Director in the cultivation of relationships
  • Assist in administration of on-campus recruiting, career fairs and programming
  • Provide oversight and administration of the Internship program including internship development, employer development and faculty relations/training
  • Coordinate the development and completion of assessments, accountability reports and surveys for the Academic Advising Center and Career Services.
  • Provide data for off-campus surveys as requested
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research on the development and implementation of the first destination report for graduating seniors and respond to the faculty, administration, employers and media requesting information
  • In conjunction with the Director, conceptualize, conduct, and evaluate assessment strategies and results
  • Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year.
  • Serve on campus committees.
  • Provide office oversight and problem resolution in the absence of the Director, when needed.
  • Supervise Career Advisor staff, University Staff, interns, and student employees.
  • Oversee hiring and training of Career Advising staff, university staff and student employees
  • Provide on-boarding office training to direct reports in addition to on-going training as needed when new or revised office procedures are implemented
  • Assign work and projects to direct reports
  • Communicates performance expectations by evaluating performance, providing timely feedback, training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff
  • Approve hours worked and leave reports.
  • Approve time off requests taking into consideration department coverage.
  • Develop and implement strategic objectives for initiatives involving career and academic advising and exploration programming to evolve the office’s services and programs.
  • Coordinate and support career development activities within the office, campus, and system wide.
  • Investigate and assess the use of new career related technology; lead the office through decision-making process when adopting new technology
  • Participate in planning and coordinating internal and system-wide career-related programming and events
  • Provide career advising through in-person or virtual appointments
  • Provide career advising to students with a broad range of career concerns including choosing/ changing majors, career exploration, job/internship search strategies, and planning for graduate school.
  • Provide advising to students who are exploring majors and to those seeking general advising.
  • Present career and academic advising related information through workshops and presentations to classes and student organizations.
  • Interpret interest, skills, values assessment instruments (Strong Interest Inventory, Focus 2).
