About The Position

The Associate Director, Network Engineering leads Humana’s Data Center Engineering and Deployment Engineering organizations. The role is responsible for designing, deploying, and evolving modern data center network infrastructure and for setting engineering standards, deployment methodologies, automation practices, and technical direction aligned with long-term business objectives. This position provides leadership for engineering execution, infrastructure automation, AI-ready networking, and large-scale transformation programs. It owns major infrastructure initiatives from design through deployment, production acceptance, and operational handoff, and provides strategic technical oversight for network, security, visibility, and management platforms. The role emphasizes engineering leadership, deployment execution, automation, and technical strategy rather than day-to-day network operations, lifecycle management, or production support. The Associate Director builds and develops high-performing engineering teams and partners with Cloud Engineering, Security Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, Architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, highly automated infrastructure. This is a remote position with occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings. Remote or hybrid-home employees must have internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload and work in a dedicated space that protects member PHI/HIPAA information.

Requirements

10 or more years of data center network engineering experience.
5 or more years of people leadership experience.
Experience leading engineering and deployment or implementation teams.
Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical organizations.
Extensive experience leading design, deployment, and transformation of enterprise data center networks using Arista EOS and Cisco Nexus platforms, VXLAN/EVPN architectures, spine-leaf networking, BGP routing, Data Center Interconnect (DCI), and Cisco-to-Arista migration programs.
Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, Ansible, Python, Git, and similar automation frameworks.
Experience building and managing Azure DevOps deployment pipelines and continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
Experience with modern data center orchestration, automation, management, and observability platforms, such as Cisco Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller (NDFC), Arista CloudVision Portal or CloudVision as a Service (CVP/CVaaS), Cisco Nexus Dashboard, Aruba Orchestrator, Gigamon visibility platforms, Arista DANZ Monitoring Fabric (DMF), or similar enterprise-scale management and telemetry solutions.
Experience using orchestration and visibility platforms for fabric provisioning, network automation, telemetry, observability, configuration management, operational consistency, and deployment lifecycle management.
Experience leading large-scale data center migration, integration, and transformation initiatives.
Experience leading engineering teams through organizational transformation, technology modernization, merger and acquisition integration, or large-scale infrastructure transitions.
Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting NVIDIA AI networking solutions, GPU clusters, RoCE-based architectures, AI fabrics, or other high-performance computing environments.
Experience with Equinix and Megaport connectivity solutions.
Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet platforms.
General familiarity with Aruba, Cisco, and Fortinet SD-WAN technologies and their integration within enterprise network environments.
Experience leading large-scale infrastructure programs using Agile, Scrum, PMI, PMO, or similar project and portfolio management methodologies.
Industry certifications such as CCIE Data Center, Arista ACE, PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, NVIDIA Networking certifications, Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or equivalent credentials.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop Data Center Network Engineers and Deployment Engineers.
Establish technical roadmaps, engineering standards, deployment methodologies, and automation strategies.
Build a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Own engineering execution for major infrastructure initiatives from design through deployment, production acceptance, and operational handoff.
Lead engineering and deployment efforts for modern data center network architectures using Cisco and Arista technologies.
Enable AI-ready networking platforms supporting NVIDIA GPU and high-performance computing environments.
Establish Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment practices using Azure DevOps, Terraform, Ansible, Python, Git, and related technologies.
Lead large-scale infrastructure transformation initiatives, including data center migrations and consolidations, merger and acquisition integrations, and subsidiary onboarding.
Drive adoption of orchestration, automation, observability, and telemetry platforms across the data center environment.
Partner with Cloud Engineering, Security Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Operations, and Architecture teams to deliver scalable, resilient, highly automated solutions.
Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for deployment of network, security, visibility, and management platforms supporting enterprise infrastructure.
Manage cross-functional programs involving engineering, deployment, operations, security, architecture, and business stakeholders to execute strategic initiatives.
