About The Position

Zeta is seeking an Associate Director or Director of High School English to make a significant impact on student academic achievement and social-emotional development. The role involves supporting the English team to ensure students achieve excellent results in high school English courses. Zeta operates elementary, middle, and high schools in New York City with plans for expansion, aiming to provide world-class, equitable education. The Network Office for Academic Excellence and School Excellence teams are located at 425 Westchester Ave., Bronx, NY 10455. This role requires in-person work most days, with potential for optional remote days and flexibility during academic breaks.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • At least five years of school leadership experience
  • Proven record of academic outcomes in ELA, including New York State English Language Arts exams, Regents exams, and AP exams.
  • Strong understanding of complex texts, development of analytical skills, and ability to develop and communicate powerful ideas.
  • Ability to create and curate curriculum and assessment materials aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Zeta Learning Competencies.
  • Experience in data analysis to identify gaps and drive action.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

  • Experience with Critical Perspectives, AP English: Language & Composition, AP English: Literature & Composition.

Responsibilities

  • Design rigorous ELA experiences for students focusing on complex texts, analytical skills, and idea development/communication.
  • Lead the High School English department to meet rigorous annual academic goals.
  • Develop authentic relationships across Zeta to collaborate effectively and support student learning.
  • Create and curate curriculum and assessment materials aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Zeta Learning Competencies, including unit plans, lesson plans, and assessments.
  • Design and lead professional learning trainings for school leaders and teachers.
  • Develop clear instructional management plans to ensure consistent, high-level implementation of English instruction.
  • Observe instruction across Zeta schools and develop leaders and teachers to ensure high-level programming implementation.
  • Analyze data to identify gaps and ensure leaders and teachers use data to increase learning outcomes.
  • Actively seek, provide, and incorporate feedback to foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Wear multiple hats as part of a lean scale-up team, supporting others and taking on new projects as needed.
