About The Position

The Associate Director of Business Development, Strategic Sourcing, will evaluate and assess early-stage assets and opportunities for Formation Bio’s business development pipeline, supporting asset opportunity evaluation and potential strategic fit. The role collaborates closely with Business Development, R&D, Commercial, Technology, and Leadership to grow the company’s asset portfolio. The position offers the opportunity to help build a technology-enabled pharmaceutical company by combining strategic asset acquisition with development capabilities to bring treatments to patients more efficiently.

Requirements

1–3 years of post-degree experience combining scientific and business expertise.
Ability to build strong relationships within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, leveraging existing contacts where applicable.
Enthusiasm for networking, relationship building, and externally facing activities.
An outgoing, motivated, and creative approach to business development.
Curiosity and insight regarding the role of AI in drug development, clinical trials, and business development.

Nice To Haves

PhD in biological science or MD with laboratory research experience.
Prior experience in biotech or pharmaceutical business development (search and evaluation), venture capital investing, or life sciences consulting.
A strong scientific background paired with business acumen.

Responsibilities

Support deal-by-deal opportunity assessment teams from asset identification through transaction close.
Collaborate with the Business Development team to identify target areas for outreach aligned with Formation Bio’s goals.
Maximize activity and provide high-quality support and diligence in strategic asset-growth therapeutic areas and modalities.
Evaluate market potential and risk for pipeline asset opportunities, assess upside, and engage the broader diligence team to ensure strategic fit.
Work cross-functionally with R&D, the technology platform, and Commercial teams.
