About The Position

The Associate Director, Board Relations and Governance serves as the operational lead for the MIT Alumni Association (MITAA) Board of Directors and its committees. This role owns the end-to-end Board governance function, leading the planning, content development, coordination, and continuous improvement of Board operations. The position requires exceptional writing and volunteer leadership skills, alignment with the Association's strategic priorities, and close collaboration with key stakeholders across the MITAA. Responsibilities include leading planning, meeting development, governance administration, committee coordination, and communications, while fostering collaboration across departments to ensure the effective operation of the Board throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of five years of experience in alumni relations, board or volunteer relations, nonprofit administration, or a related field in a university or nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated experience administering programs or events that serve multiple constituency groups and stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organizational, project management, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, polished, professionally formatted materials.
  • Demonstrated success setting priorities and delivering high-quality work.
  • Highly professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
  • Ability to anticipate scheduling conflicts, content gaps, and potential problems, and proactively recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Ellucian Advance Web or other enterprise fundraising system.
  • Knowledge of web presentation software such as Zoom.
  • Experience working in higher education advancement.
