About The Position

Ensures the daily function of operations and services related to the university’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and other laws and rules related to discrimination based on sex or gender, including sexual harassment and related misconduct. Develops and implements a comprehensive Title IX training, education, prevention, and response program. Exercises professional judgment to prioritize competing demands and allocate resources effectively to meet departmental goals. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource person for the assigned area. Works closely with other campus units to provide appropriate complaint responses and student, faculty, and staff focused educational programing to ensure that the university is fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. Coordinates with outside entities to provide educational opportunities and community resources. Provides strategic leadership and direction for multiple programs. Plans, develops, and implements organizational initiatives with significant operational scope and complexity. Works under direction and receives assignments and orders in general terms and is usually expected to complete an assignment within a determined time frame but is free to work out the details and sequences. Interprets regulations, policies, etc. for the guidance of other employees or the public; administers regulations and/or policies.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of professional experience as: a Title IX coordinator, Title IX deputy coordinator, Title IX investigator, student conduct officer, domestic violence investigator/prosecutor or sex-based offenses investigator/prosecutor and/or another related position.
  • Experience planning and presenting compliance and/or educational training.
  • Must complete Title IX training.
  • Knowledge of: university policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives; department/division policies and procedures; workplace safety practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; office management; project management.
  • Skill in: interpersonal relations; analytical thought; written and verbal communication; use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division.
  • Ability to: maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to privacy; demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity toward experiences and expressions of trauma caused by sexual violence and harassment and/or discrimination; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; determine material and equipment needs; calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; prepare accurate documentation; maintain records according to established procedures; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; train or instruct others; move quickly and effectively from one task to another; work independently and in a team environment; develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • A juris doctorate or a master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, social work, criminology, or another appropriate field of study from an accredited institution.
  • ATIXA or other related certification.
  • Proficiency in compliance tracking, campus safety, or student conduct software systems such as Pave Systems, Maxient, or another related software.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general oversight and administration of any assigned program, initiative, or objective, including supervision of staff, including other managers if applicable.
  • Assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; helps with the development of unit work procedures and policies.
  • Serves as the primary response person and/or investigator for reports of sexual harassment, specifically sexual misconduct, gender-based discrimination, harassment, intimate partner violence, and stalking, involving students.
  • Meets with complainants, respondents, witnesses, and others regarding reports or complaints; administers the Title IX grievance process; reviews the need for and enacts appropriate interim and/or supportive measures.
  • Gathers and assesses evidence and communicates information regarding the process, rights, and resources to individuals, including students, faculty, and staff involved in investigations or those seeking information.
  • Maintains appropriate related records.
  • Develops and maintains clear and comprehensive policies, procedures and practices related to Title IX.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Serves as the point of contact for information related to the university’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures.
  • Designs and delivers training materials and/or other supporting documentation necessary for the operation of the Title IX office, including prevention, response, advisor, decision maker, and appellate officer trainings.
  • Works closely across campus to develop and provide education on prevention and response efforts for faculty, staff, and students to foster a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
  • Remains current on compliance requirements and best practices related to Title IX, the Ohio Department of Higher Education, Clery Act, Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, CAMPUS ACT and other statewide and national laws/initiatives related to all areas of responsibilities.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises content for the university’s written and online materials related to Title IX.
  • Ensures appropriate campus-wide distribution of written content and appropriate community resources.
  • Directs and participates in complex projects, including implementation plans, timelines, and resource requirements for the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Changing Campus Culture Initiative and/or other related programs.
  • Responsible for the implementation and review of required and/or appropriate surveys and assessments.
  • Collects and prepares data required by state and federal entities regarding the campus climate and demographics, identifying trends and issues; prepares and supplies data and information as required to fulfill regulatory reporting requirements; maintains statistical and empirical data necessary for Title IX and Ohio program review and compliance.
  • Analyzes complex data sets and prepares comprehensive reports with recommendations for leadership.
  • Conducts research to identify best practices; recommends and/or develops new systems to analyze statistical data.
  • Works with the university’s Clery Officer to ensure the validity of the Annual Security Report crime statistics.
  • Regularly communicates with supervisor and other staff, including student workers, as required or needed in the completion of daily tasks in support of overall goals and objectives.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of daily tasks in accordance with applicable policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for assigned areas.
  • Interprets and adapts broader organizational policies to meet the specific needs of the department.
  • Participates directly in the strategic planning process for the department.
  • Develops long-range plans, goals, and objectives for assigned areas aligned with broader organizational strategy.
  • Directs the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of multiple program areas or a major department/division function with significant operational complexity and resource requirements.
  • Assists with training new hires.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.
