About The Position

This position will oversee the academic advising and success coaching team and work closely with the Director of Student Success and academic leadership to lead academic advising and success coaching efforts, and act as an advising resource for the institution, while ensuring alignment with institutional student success and retention goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Five years of related higher education experience with progressive leadership experience working with undergraduate students with specific experience in academic advising, success coaching, and working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent skills in communication (written, oral, and interpersonal with an emphasis in relating to student needs), leadership, technology, collaboration, learning strategies, planning and time management, problem analysis and resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the undergraduate, on-campus academic advising and success coaching team.
  • Lead professional development opportunities for the undergraduate, on-campus academic advising and success coaching team and campus advising community, including faculty advisor training and professional development.
  • Remain aware and collaborate to implement academic advising best practices, including major exploration, introduction of career advising, and related initiatives that contribute to student success and retention.
  • Develop weekly communication plans, areas of focus and key priorities for undergraduate, on-campus academic advising and success coaching team.
  • Hire and train new members of the undergraduate, on-campus academic advising and success coaching team and serve as mentor for new academic advisor and success coaches.
  • Coordinate scheduling and advising of new freshman each year, including assignment of advising caseloads.
  • Ensure that 77-150/155 curriculum is reviewed and assessed annually, making updates as needed.
  • Work with undergraduate, on-campus academic advising and success coaching team and lead advisor to develop graduate assistant (GA) and peer mentor (PM) training and lead weekly meetings with success coaching graduate assistants and occasional sessions with peer mentors.
  • Ensure students on probation are enrolled and succeeding in the Academic Recovery program.
  • Maintain academic advising and success coaching handbooks for professional and faculty advisors. Ensure handbooks are up-to-date with current policies and practices and shared with campus stakeholders.
  • Provide interventions for unique student situations and represent academics on the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).
  • Provide guidance and act as a resource on advising issues for campus.
  • Serve on committees representing student advising and academic interests.
  • Resolve problems and enhance various academic advising and success coaching processes, projects, procedures that impact student success and retention by employing critical thinking skills and creativity.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness that exist within the academic advisor and success coaching role.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Academic Success & Retention unit and Student Success Center by performing leadership and administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
