About The Position

The Denver District Attorney’s Office has immediate openings for the position of Deputy District Attorney. We offer competitive salaries that reflect relevant work history. This position is collecting applications for this role, however, this is an at will appointed position by the Denver District Attorney, John Walsh. Deputy District Attorneys assigned to the Organized Crime Unit represent the People of the State of Colorado in complex criminal prosecutions, including organized crime, gang-related violence, large-scale drug distribution, racketeering, conspiracy, and coordinated multi-defendant cases. They also provide legal counsel to state and federal law enforcement agencies across the Denver Metro Area and work closely with such investigative partners to target, develop, coordinate, and oversee long-term investigations that lead to case filing and prosecution. The working environment includes a fast‑paced, high‑stakes work where at times work may require long or irregular hours, including evenings or weekends. Requirements

• Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree.
• Five (5) years of experience as an attorney at law as a prosecutor
• Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4 and 205.6.
• Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
• Must have at least 5 years’ relevant experience

Responsibilities

• Investigate and prosecute organized-crime, gang-related violence, and/or large-scale narcotic distribution cases
• Manage complex, multi-defendant prosecutions including conspiracies, organized crime groups, criminal enterprises, large-scale narcotics traffickers, and gangs involved in shootings or violent acts.
• Responsibilities include charging cases through complaint and information, investigating/indicting cases through grand jury, written motions practice, litigating legal issues, and trying cases before a jury
• Demonstrate strong legal competency in complex litigation, motion and trial advocacy, 4th and 5th Amendment law, as well as organized crime, gang prosecution, and narcotics trafficking statutes
• Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal law-enforcement partners to cultivate and develop proactive investigations targeting criminal organizations, violent gangs, and major narcotics traffickers
• Provide ongoing legal guidance to detectives and agents during active investigations.
• Advise on target selection, evidence collection techniques, and charging strategies.
• Review and approve associated search and arrest warrants.
• Direct investigative follow-up
• Collaborate with law enforcement, community partners, and intelligence units to identify emerging gang trends and criminal networks
• Assist fellow deputies in the prosecution of gang-related crimes, violent crimes connected to organized groups, and major drug distribution cases
