About The Position

This position reports directly to the Dean of the Law School and is a part of the Law School’s leadership team. The incumbent carries out a variety of management duties in support of the student services functions in the School of Law. The position requires an ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. The position also requires the ability to retain current, comprehensive information about academic and co-curricular programming, student organizations, and professional and health counseling resources. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a time conscious manner are essential to the position.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or other relevant advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, legal education, student affairs, career services, academic administration, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and management experience, including the ability to lead professional staff, establish priorities, delegate responsibilities, evaluate performance, and promote collaboration across functional areas.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive student programming related to student retention, career and professional development, professional and health related counseling, and character and fitness for bar admission for students in the Day and Evening Programs. Such programming includes, but is not limited to student town hall meetings, student organization meetings and other student events.
  • Works with appropriate faculty and senior administrative staff each year to coordinate and present New Student Orientation at the beginning of each year; and plans and coordinates the Law School’s Hooding Ceremony and serves as the primary liaison in working with University staff on Graduation at the end of each year.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with the University’s Accessibility Resource Center to ensure that reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified students as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Maintains regular communication with all matriculating students; routinely surveying and evaluating the quality and breadth of services essential to retention and successful matriculation.
  • Assists Associate Dean of Admissions and others to staff student recruitment and retention events such as Law Day, Open House, and regional forums.
  • Represents the School of Law as needed at public facing events, such as informational sessions and public meetings.
  • Works with institutional advancement and development to publicize student achievement and activities to internal and external audiences.
