About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking an experienced and collaborative student affairs leader to serve as Associate Dean of Student Affairs on our Rockville Campus. This is an exciting opportunity for a higher education professional who is passionate about student success, campus engagement, student support, and creating a safe and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs, the Associate Dean is a key member of the campus Student Affairs leadership team and provides leadership and operational oversight for a broad portfolio of student support functions. The Associate Dean will help shape and coordinate responses to complex student needs, including behavioral intervention, crisis response, student conduct, Title IX-related matters, and support for veteran and military-connected students. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at one of the nation's leading community colleges, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community partners to strengthen student support and advance student success. The Associate Dean also serves as a trusted campus leader, acting on behalf of the Dean in the Dean's absence, supervising assigned staff, managing designated resources and budgets, and representing Student Affairs on collegewide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social work, education, public administration, legal studies, or a closely related field.
  • Progressively responsible experience in student affairs, higher education administration, or related student-facing functions such as student conduct, behavioral intervention, crisis response, counseling and advising, compliance, student life, or other student support services.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading or coordinating operational functions, including project management, cross-functional collaboration, and support for budgeting or resource allocation.
  • Experience working within or alongside integrated student support systems, including behavioral intervention, student conduct processes, and campus-based care and intervention models.
  • Experience working in environments involving application of institutional policies and procedures and student support frameworks, including familiarity with student development principles and regulatory requirements such as FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, and ADA/Section 504.
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders in a higher education setting, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, families, and external partners, in support of student success and institutional operations.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission, including access, equity, student success, retention, and support for diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and integrated student support systems, including behavioral intervention, student conduct, Title IX/VAWA frameworks, crisis response, and prevention-based student affairs models.
  • Knowledge of the value of data-informed decision making.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and operational oversight for assigned Student Affairs programs, services, and campus-based student support initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional and Student Affairs priorities and student success goals.
  • Serves as a Student Affairs administrator and acts on behalf of the Dean of Student Affairs in the Dean's absence, providing leadership, decision-making, and continuity of operations.
  • Leads the campus Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and coordinates assessment, intervention, documentation, case management, and follow-up for students of concern, including students experiencing behavioral, academic, personal, or crisis-related challenges.
  • Supports the administration and continuous improvement of the Student Conduct Program, including conduct operations, student development and educational initiatives, prevention and outreach, assessment, compliance-related practices, and collaboration with BIT and Title IX processes.
  • Serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and campus-based resource for Title IX-related education, prevention, awareness, and referrals. Collaborates with the Office of Compliance, Risk, and Ethics and campus partners to promote compliance and connect students, faculty, and staff with appropriate resources and reporting options.
  • Provides leadership and coordination for veteran and military-connected student support services, promoting student success through collaboration, advocacy, resource development, and service enhancement.
  • Supervises assigned staff and manages operational resources, including personnel, budgets, technology systems, assessment activities, and administrative processes.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners to address complex student concerns and develop coordinated support strategies that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive campus environment.
  • Supports the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of Student Affairs policies, procedures, training programs, operational protocols, and compliance-related practices.
  • Represents campus Student Affairs on collegewide committees, workgroups, and special initiatives and collaborates with internal and external partners on student-centered programs and projects.
