About The Position

The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Cizik School of Nursing serves as the senior leader responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive student affairs program that promotes marketing and student recruitment, success, engagement, well-being, professionalism, leadership development, and retention across all academic programs within Cizik School of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). The Assistant Dean provides strategic leadership for student support services and collaborates with administrative and academic leadership, faculty, staff, and university partners to create an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that supports students from recruitment, through matriculation, to graduation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership or Related Field required
  • 7 years of Progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, nursing education, health professions education, or student affairs including supervision and student success programming required

  • Doctorate Degree in Education, Nursing Education, Nursing Practice or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership for the Student Affairs Office and student success initiatives.
  • Works with the Academic Success Center (ASC) to identify and support student services, wellness, orientation, leadership development, student organizations, and recognition programs.
  • Partners with academic leadership to identify and support students experiencing academic or personal challenges.
  • Develops initiatives that improve recruitment, retention, progression, graduation, NCLEX-RN®/licensure success, and employment.
  • Works with the ASC student wellness, resilience, and mental health initiatives in collaboration with university resources.
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and reporting of a strategic marketing and student recruitment program.
  • Oversees student conduct, professionalism, grievance processes, and policy implementation.
  • Oversees the management, allocation, distribution, and reporting of student scholarships and student serving endowments.
  • Coordinates orientation, commencement, and major student events.
  • Advises student organizations and promote leadership and service opportunities.
  • Collaborates with university offices including Registrar, Financial Aid, Counseling, Accessibility, Title IX, Veteran Services, and Student Affairs.
  • Uses student success metrics and assessment data to guide efficiencies and continuous improvement.
  • Supports accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness data collection, reporting, and activities.
  • Supervises Student Affairs Office staff, departmental operations, budgeting, and performance management.
  • Represents the School on institutional committees and within professional organizations.
  • Promote student excellence throughout student programming.
  • Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
