About The Position

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) is seeking an Associate Dean for Academic Programs for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). This position reports to the Dean of CALS and provides college-wide leadership for undergraduate and graduate academic programs. The Associate Dean will focus on online and distance education, teaching and professional development, and undergraduate support and special programs, including off-campus programs, UF Online, and self-funded certificates and degrees. Responsibilities also include supporting international activities, faculty professional development, and undergraduate research initiatives. The role involves collaboration with various UF/IFAS entities to develop strategic teaching initiatives and support faculty advancement through promotion and tenure reviews. The incumbent will represent the Dean at various functions and is expected to support IFAS's land-grant mission in research, teaching, and extension.

Requirements

Internal search - open to current permanent UF faculty only
An earned doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in agriculture, food, natural resources, life sciences, or a closely related discipline.
Qualified for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the departments in CALS based upon an exemplary record of innovative approaches to teaching, research, and/or extension.
Significant experience in instruction and advising.
Recognized within their own field of specialization.
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
Ability to work with administrators, faculty, and students.
Commitment to UF core values.
Strong support and understanding of the mission of a land-grant university.

Nice To Haves

Evidence of administrative leadership and managerial skills is desirable.
Experience in course and curriculum development is desirable.

Responsibilities

Provide college-wide leadership for undergraduate and graduate academic programs in CALS.
Work with administrators, faculty, staff, and students for the continued development, improvement, and coordination of academic programs.
Provide college-wide and campus leadership on matters related primarily to online and distance education, teaching and professional development, and undergraduate support and special programs.
Support off-campus undergraduate programs, UF Online programs, and self-funded certificates and degrees.
Liaise with the UF International Center and the IFAS Global Food Systems Institute to support international activities and programs such as CALS study abroad, international exchange program development and support, and federal compliance support for international students.
Be substantially involved in faculty professional development support (e.g., CALS Teacher’s College, CALS Teaching Resource Center, Roche Teaching Scholars, CALS Teaching Enhancement Symposium, and coordination of teaching and advising award nominations and submissions).
Support undergraduate research through coordination of the University Scholars Program, the CALS Honors Scholars Certificate Program, and the IFAS Research Internships.
Collaborate with program leaders at UF/IFAS Institutes, Centers and programs on issues related to CALS mission and goals, including the development of strategic teaching initiatives that build upon institutional strengths.
Support professional development of faculty at all career stages, including but not limited to preparing evaluative letters for promotion and tenure, third year progress assessment, and post-tenure review dossiers of statewide faculty.
Represent the Dean for CALS at UF, UF/IFAS, and external functions as requested.
Be supportive and engaged in all three mission areas – Research, Teaching and Extension – regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.
