The Advising Dean is one of eleven academic Advising Deans in Arts & Sciences Student Services that serves over 4,800 undergraduate students of richly diverse backgrounds and academic interests that span over 40 distinct majors. The Advising Deans are highly collaborative and supportive of each other, and the successful candidate will relish a fast-paced environment with a close-knit team. Advising Deans provide personalized advising to cohorts of approximately 480 students and collectively support upwards of 550 faculty members in their roles as advisors. This Advising Dean will provide developmental advising to undergraduates to ensure their academic, personal, and professional success, as well as develop and implement activities and programs designed to contribute to a sense of belonging and community among students with diverse cultural, economic, and geographic backgrounds. The Advising Dean’s program responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the Advising Team and the Director of Advising. Arts & Sciences Advising works closely with the college’s Admissions, Career Development, and Registrar/Operations teams to facilitate a smooth transition into Cornell and a successful path to graduation and post-Cornell career for all our students. This position works collaboratively with staff across many student services offices on campus, such as Cornell Health, Dean of Students, Student Disability Services, Athletics, Residence Life, Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives, Global Learning, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Financial Aid.
