About The Position

GEICO is hiring an Associate Counsel for its Staff Counsel office located in Marlton, New Jersey. The role defends lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and handles other first-party insurance defense matters. The position is remote, with the candidate required to be commutable to the Marlton office.

Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar.
• Maintain a New Jersey law license in good standing and meet applicable licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Be able to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for customers, clients, coworkers, and other employees.
• Be able to follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate resolution of conflicts, and demonstrate strong organization, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Be able to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice To Haves

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Ability to communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence or email.

Responsibilities

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable.
