About The Position

The Associate Counsel, Claim Legal Property role is responsible for providing a range of cost-effective, high quality legal services to Travelers concerning first party property insurance claims. This coverage-focused Associate Counsel position works under the supervision of senior lawyers on a wide variety of claim and coverage matters under homeowners, commercial property, ocean marine, inland marine, equipment breakdown, builders risk, boat/yacht, fidelity, and other insurance policies.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
  • Active license (in good standing) to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of prior legal experience in insurance law with a focus on insurance coverage.
  • 2-3 years of litigation experience.
  • Prior experience working in an insurance claims capacity is welcome as well.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on legal issues to the Property Claim organization.
  • Partner with clients and outside counsel to manage litigation against Travelers arising out of property insurance claims (and other lines of business, as needed).
  • Collaborate with clients and management regarding matters of significance to the legal community.
  • Research legal principles and precedent.
  • Proactively identify and communicate risk to internal and/or external customers and provide recommendations on how to mitigate that risk.
  • Draft, negotiate and execute legal documents.
  • Maintain awareness of external judicial climate and legal developments.
  • Work on building strong internal and external client relationships.
  • Make effective use of technology and automation in the practice of law.
  • This role acts as an individual contributor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
