The Counsel role is responsible for providing a range of cost-effective, high quality legal services while representing Travelers. The Counsel position handles moderately complex legal matters, requiring an established degree of knowledge and expertise.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
  • 3 years of prior legal experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of prior legal experience as a practicing insurance coverage attorney.
  • Knowledge of specific Coverage B related issues.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provides counsel on moderately complex legal issues to our internal Business Torts and Technology clients on Commercial General Liability Coverage B matters.
  • Provides coverage advice to internal clients and manages a docket of complex Coverage B litigation in jurisdictions across the United States.
  • Responsible for determining appropriate outside counsel to partner with and manage in the day-to-day handling of complex coverage litigation.
  • Partners with clients or management and/or attempts to influence managers regarding matters of significance to the legal community.
  • Research legal principles and precedents within the area of specialization or expertise identified above.
  • Proactively identifies and communicates risk to internal and/or external customers and provides recommendations on how to mitigate that risk.
  • Drafts, negotiates, and executes legal documents, issues legal work product.
  • Maintains awareness of external judicial climate and legal developments.
  • Builds and maintains strong internal and external client relationships.
  • Makes effective use of technology and automation in the practice of law.
  • Conduct legal training.
  • This role acts as an individual contributor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
