About The Position

The University of Florida College of Medicine and UF Health seek an Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) – Adult Services. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this physician executive leadership role supports high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered care across adult services along with accelerating patient flow to improve patient access to hospital services. The ACMO partners with hospital leadership, department chairs, nursing, and operational teams to advance clinical excellence, improve operational performance, and align care delivery with organizational strategy. This role integrates efforts across quality, patient safety, clinical operations, and physician engagement to ensure standardized, evidence-based care. This is a .10 FTE faculty administrative role.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree and board certification in an appropriate clinical specialty.
  • Active medical license and current medical staff membership in good standing at UF Health Greater Gainesville Market
  • Demonstrated physician leadership experience in hospital operations, quality, clinical program leadership, or administrative roles
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical governance, quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory standards
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a complex healthcare environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a physician leadership role (e.g., departmental, divisional, or hospital-based leadership).
  • Experience leading clinical programs and operational initiatives
  • Formal training in healthcare leadership, quality improvement, or administration (e.g., MPH, MBA, Lean, IHI)
  • Experience advancing quality, safety, and operational performance in a complex health system

Responsibilities

  • Support development and oversight of clinical programs; improve throughput, efficiency, and care delivery models across adult services
  • Participate in strategic planning, patient flow, efficiency, and growth initiatives; provide clinical expertise to executive leadership; liaise with the UF Health patient flow center
  • Foster regulatory and accreditation compliance; support patient experience initiatives, utilization management, and external partnerships as needed
  • Participate in institutional mortality reviews
  • Participate in root cause analyses (RCAs) and rapid response huddles as needed.
  • Co-lead improvements to support strategic goals of UF Health Shands
