About The Position

This role involves determining the acceptability of new business, change requests, and renewals within the established authority level. The Associate Case Property Underwriter will ensure accurate data for the Homeowner/Mobile home book of business, review amendments to existing policies, and communicate underwriting decisions to agents and insureds in a professional manner. Responsibilities also include entering specialized data, underwriting and processing bulk changes, and recommending the termination of accounts when necessary. The position requires productivity, quality work output, and high customer satisfaction levels.

Requirements

  • College degree or insurance related designation and a minimum of one year insurance experience required in underwriting, claims, or sales or 3-5 years’ of experience in Underwriting required.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize work and manage time wisely.
  • Must have knowledge of office administration procedures and the ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Must pay attention to detail in composing and proofing materials.
  • Must be self-motivated with initiative and ability to make sound underwriting decisions and accept responsibility for those decisions.
  • Be flexible to respond to unexpected situations that require immediate attention.
  • A high level of confidentiality is to be maintained.
  • Must have excellent people skills such as diplomacy, tact, patience, good listener and communicator.
  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals, and other documents as required.
  • Excellent telephone, public relations and oral/written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Must possess basic skills with personal computer, experience with Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite and internet.

Nice To Haves

  • Continued involvement in professional continued education preferred.
  • Completion of Introduction to Risk Management & Insurance, or higher-level course is preferred.
  • Assist in training other employees on the use of the Policy STAR/Policy PRO system as needed.
  • Participate in special projects & meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend termination of existing accounts when appropriate, or after all other recommendations for modification have failed or been refused.
  • Determine whether risks should be forwarded to Brokerage.
  • Maintain productivity/volume of work.
  • Ensure quality of work output and results.
  • Achieve customer satisfaction levels.
