About The Position

The Firm: Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, LLP, is a nationally recognized law firm in Washington, DC serving the nonprofit public interest community. Harmon Curran helps progressive nonprofit organizations and the funders and individuals who support them with the full scope of legal issues they most commonly confront. We are a small, collegial, mission-driven firm that has been in existence for more than 50 years. The Job: We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 2-5 years of legal experience to work within our exempt organizations and employment law practices. Candidates with less than 2 years’ legal experience but with extensive experience working with or for nonprofits may apply. The selected attorney will conduct legal research and help provide legal advice across the firm’s practice areas and will have exposure to a wide variety of legal topics and issues. Within the exempt organizations practice, the attorney may assist with the formation and exemption recognition of new nonprofit entities; provide advice to organizations about permissible lobbying and issue advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels; answer questions about acceptable political activities and campaign finance compliance; and review and draft contracts. Within the employment law practice, the attorney may help provide counsel and advice about employment law obligations such as anti-discrimination law requirements, leave and accommodation requests, and wage and hour compliance; conduct workplace investigations and trainings; develop and review employment policies, employee handbooks, and employment agreements; and provide guidance and craft strategies for handling complicated employee matters.
