About The Position

We are seeking an Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of insurance coverage, insurance defense litigation, and law and motion practice to join our Walnut Creek, California office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analyzing complex insurance policies, handling coverage-related disputes, and drafting substantive motions in state and federal court. Our dynamic Insurance Services Practice Group is known for its comprehensive approach to complex insurance claims analysis and high-stakes coverage litigation. The group represents insurance company clients in matters involving defective products, mass torts, environmental contamination, habitability, transportation, professional liability, and intellectual property. This position is hybrid in our Walnut Creek, California office.

Requirements

  • Active bar license in California
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • At least 5 years of experience in insurance coverage and/or insurance defense litigation in either state or federal court.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional writing, organizational, and advocacy skills
  • Strong law and motion experience, including drafting dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive filings.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with partners, associates, paralegals, and law clerks.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of assigned matters.

  • Prior experience in billable-hour environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Handle all phases of insurance coverage analysis and related civil litigation in state and federal court.
  • Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and other coverage-related communications.
  • Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive law and motion filings.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to insurance company clients and collaborate with claims professionals and adjusters.
  • Monitor underlying litigation and evaluate exposure under applicable insurance policies.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and internal litigation teams.
  • Attend court hearings and oral arguments, both remotely and in person.
